The NFL Today on CBS Quotage For Week 8

We conclude our early Sunday NFL pregame quotage with The NFL Today on CBS.

NEWS, NOTES & QUOTES FROM CBS SPORTS’ “THE NFL TODAY” WITH JAMES BROWN, DAN MARINO, SHANNON SHARPE, BILL COWHER AND BOOMER ESIASON FOR WEEK 8 ON OCTOBER 31
? QUICK HITS
(On Dallas and Minnesota)
BILL COWHER: You’re not going to win a playoff spot this week, but you can lose one. I think if you look at Dallas, look at Minnesota, these are two teams that don’t panic, don’t unravel, but they have to have a sense of urgency about them, because they could lose a playoff spot just like Tennessee last year.
(On whether Brett Favre starts today for Minnesota)
SHANNON SHARPE: I think this is more of an indictment on Tarvaris Jackson than it is Brett Favre’s streak. If they felt that Tarvaris Jackson could play well enough, he’d be starting. Here’s a guy that’s played with two broken bones in his ankle and they keep saying Brett Favre gives us the best chance to win… Maybe last year when he didn’t turn over the football and put you in harm’s way…I don’t see how he gives them the best chance to win with that situation.
(On Minnesota Head Coach Brad Childress)
COWHER: His credibility is at stake right now. There is no question. Brett Favre is on a short leash today.
(On Brett Favre playing)
DAN MARINO: Right now that’s still going to be Brett Favre. You saw all the throws he made last week.  He has been making some mistakes, but there are no more excuses. Brett, if it’s a bad ankle, whatever it may be, he has all the weapons he needs to win. He just has to find a way to dig down deep in New England, and stare them in the face and get into the playoffs.
(On Dallas and Wade Phillips)
BOOMER ESIASON: What happened last week lays at the feet of one, Wade Phillips. I’m sorry, that is the reality of this business. If you ask me, if they don’t turn it around now, I think it’s a foregone conclusion that Wade Phillips will be out of a job by the time the season end rolls around.
? “INSIDE THE GAME” WITH “NFL TODAY GENERAL MANAGER” CHARLEY CASSERLY
(On Brett Favre investigation)
CASSERLY: Jenn Sterger has agreed to meet with the NFL either next Thursday or Friday. In that meeting what she’s going to do is contradict Favre’s statement where he denied sending her elicit pictures. Next, Sterger’s group has identified the ex-Jet employee who passed along Sterger’s number to Favre without her consent. Another note, Sterger’s group is going to speak this week with somebody who can verify it, and possibly has some other information that can help Sterger’s case. And also, Sterger is considering suing the Jets and/or Brett Favre.
(On Tony Romo injury)
The Cowboys asked Dr. William Andrews to consult on this and give them a second opinion. Andrews agreed with the doctors from Dallas. First of all, he said surgery should not be done. The break is too close to the clavicle. Eight weeks is the recovery time. The Cowboys said there is no hurry to put him on IR (injured reserve list). They want to see how he recovers and what the record is when he gets healthy.

That’s it.
