Some More Links

I’ll give you a few more links before doing the Weekend Viewing Picks.

Richard Sandomir of the New York Times says it’s an interesting coincidence that brings Barry Bonds to Milwaukee on the anniversary of Hank Aaron’s last home run in the same town and where MLB Commissioner Bud Selig lives. Neil Best in his Newsday blog says ESPN will start all Barry, all the time coverage, except for Saturday.

CNBC’s Darren Rovell suggests to the NBA that it pay its referees more so they won’t feel tempted to take money on the side in a Mafia-led betting scheme as Tim Donaghy reportedly did. Over to the Sports Media Watch blog where Paulsen recaps the media reaction to this story.

Jim Carlisle of the Ventura County Star writes that the Open Championship at Carnoustie brings back memories of the failures of Jean Van de Velde at the same course some eight years ago.

The Sporting News’ Mike DeCourcy feels the US deserves seeing international basketball on a TV network rather than seeing it online.

CBS Sports doesn’t offer much during the Summer months. After the Masters, it’s pretty much dead until August when it starts its NFL coverage, offers the PGA Championship and the US Open Grand Slam tournament. But it will have something for viewers this weekend such as the Tour de France and a LPGA tournament.

You want to talk about overkill? ESPN will show its first NASCAR race next week since 2000 on multiple platforms. You want to talk about road block? This is a road block.

Ok, those are your links for this Friday.
