The CBS Television Network, home of Super Bowl XLVII, continues its 53rd year broadcasting the NFL with coverage of THE NFL ON CBS on Sunday, Sept. 23 (1:00-7:00 PM, ET) beginning with THE NFL TODAY, the Network’s one-hour studio show (12:00 NOON-1:00 PM, ET), live from THE NFL TODAY studio in New York City.
THE NFL ON CBS lead announce team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms call the action from the Houston Texans-Denver Broncos game live from Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, Colo. Lance Barrow is the coordinating producer and lead game producer and Mike Arnold is the lead game director.

(On short week for Denver Broncos): The fact that it is a short week and Denver is playing at home will not affect them as much. Let’s not forget that they have a coach in Jack Del Rio who really knows the Houston Texans well. If the Denver coaches and people there don’t know Gary Kubiak and some of the things that he learned in Denver, I don’t know what else you need. So, there is no effect on the Denver Broncos after the Monday Night game.
(On Peyton Manning): Everybody is up in arms about Peyton Manning throwing three interceptions. So many times in games you make judgments. You throw the ball thinking your guy is going to catch it and it gets intercepted. And you say, ‘Wow, I didn’t think he could get there.’ It is about judgments. You learn as the year goes along. The more information you get, the better you should get at those judgments. There is no need to pull any fire alarms. Peyton Manning has a little Dan Marino in him. He does not shy away when he throws an interception. He keeps firing the ball and keeps trying to go down the field. That is the mark of a quarterback who has great confidence in himself. They are not going to let a mistake derail all their thoughts and change the way they play the game.
(On Houston): The Houston Texans are a fast and deep team. They have reserves. And that is a credit to their organization.
(On Denver): You have to stand up and notice the fact that the Broncos have a very good offensive line. It can run-block. It can power-block. It can pass-protect. They’re not the best in the NFL, but as a unit they are very, very good. They are going to provide Peyton Manning a lot of opportunity for him to do what he wants to do. He is definitely going to get chances at second looks at defenses because of the protection he is going to receive all year long. The fact that the Broncos ran the ball so much last year with Tim Tebow, there is definitely a carry-over. There is a toughness on that offensive line that shows when they play. Even though they are 1-1, they are getting the benefits from last year. To line-up late in the game and run the ball against the Pittsburgh Steelers, that is a pretty good statement.
Now to what CBS will air on the NFL Today. You’ll see talks with two rookie quarterbacks, Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck, then the first appearance of medical analyst Dr. Neal ElAttrache to discuss the Week 3 injuries.

THE NFL ON CBS, home of Super Bowl XLVII and broadcasting its 53rd year of the NFL, continues its 2012 NFL season on Sunday, Sept. 23 (1:00-7:00 PM, ET) beginning with THE NFL TODAY (12:00 Noon-1:00 PM, ET).
THE NFL TODAY visits with two rookie quarterbacks, Indianapolis Colts’ Andrew Luck and Washington Redskins’ Robert Griffin III, as they share their impressions of their initial NFL experiences both on- and off-the-field and how they seem destined to be linked to each other throughout their careers.
Last December, RGIII won the Heisman Trophy Award, while Luck finished second. Then in April, they became the fifth pair of quarterbacks since 1967 to be selected with the first two overall picks in the NFL draft. This time it was a reverse in order as Luck was selected No. 1 by the Colts, while the Redskins traded up to get Griffin III with the No. 2 pick. In Indianapolis, Luck has the pressure of succeeding Peyton Manning, while Griffin III is now in charge of reviving a venerable franchise in Washington where fans have been clamoring for a top-notch quarterback for years. RGIII was the first to record an NFL victory, engineering a stunning Week 1 upset in New Orleans. Luck earned his first win in Week 2, leading a game-winning drive against Minnesota. Jeff St. Arromand is the producer.
In addition, the first appearance of THE NFL TODAY doctor, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, will share his medical expertise regarding several key injured NFL players. And, Billy Gardell of the hit sitcom MIKE & MOLLY will be live in the studio.
James Brown hosts THE NFL TODAY along with analysts Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason, Shannon Sharpe and Bill Cowher, NFL TODAY Insider Jason La Canfora, as well as Lesley Visser reporting.
