More Friday Press Release Action

I have a few more press releases for you tonight.

ESPN will air an interview with “VY” Vince Young this Sunday.

Exclusive Interview with Tennessee’s Vince Young on SportsCenter Sunday at 10 a.m. ET

Sunday, June 14, on the 10 a.m. ET edition of SportsCenter, Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young, in an exclusive E:60 interview, talks in detail with correspondent Michael Smith about the Monday night in September 2009 when team members feared he was missing and contemplating suicide. Young had played poorly against Jacksonville the previous Sunday, was heavily booed by the fans, and left the game with a knee injury.

Young left his cell phone at home, and family members, knowing he carried a gun with him, grew concerned. He was eventually located at an uncle’s home. Later in the evening, he met with the police, who were searching for him, and Titans’ coach Jeff Fisher. In the interview, Young maintains, as he has from the start, that he was upset at how fans had reacted and concerned with his injury, but he never considered suicide. He says he carried the gun with him, as he typically did, for protection.

In the E:60 interview (part of an in-depth profile on the Titans’ quarterback that will air when the ESPN primetime newsmagazine returns July 28 at 7 p.m.), the Tennessee quarterback speaks at length about the details of that night, and the conflicting emotions – his thoughts of staying away from the playing field for the remainder of the season, the pressure he felt to deliver on his large contract, his frustration with the public’s reaction, and his confusion about how the situation was handled.

· “I had to sit down in Coach (Fisher’s) office, and I had to sit there until the lady came, the psychiatrist lady, for her to verify that I’m fine. All that type of stuff — it was embarrassing…I can’t stand when somebody jeopardizes my image and does…things that are unnecessary. Especially if I’ve told you, out of my mouth like a man, that I’m fine. Can I please go home? For all the stuff that happened that night…It was a sight to see.”Young on the meeting with Fisher at the Titans’ practice facility

OH WHAT A KNIGHT!

CBS SPORTS’ NICK FALDO KNIGHTED

CBS Sports’ lead golf analyst Nick Faldo will be honored with Knighthood as announced on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list released in Britain this morning.

Faldo, once the number one ranked golfer in the world, is the winner of six Major Championships; including three Masters Tournaments and three British Open titles, and more than 40 tournaments worldwide. Born on July 18, 1957 in Welwyn Garden City, England, he was awarded the MBE (Member of the British Empire) in 1988. .

Tim Finchem, Commissioner, PGA TOUR

“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, I would like to extend congratulations to Nick Faldo on the announcement of his knighthood. This is a truly deserved honor in recognition of years of representing his country at the highest levels of international competition and for his helping grow the game worldwide as a broadcaster, golf course designer and for indentifying the next generation of champions through the Faldo Series of tournaments worldwide.”

Sean McManus, President, CBS News & Sports

“Today’s announcement is a well deserved honor for a great champion. We at CBS Sports are pleased and proud of our friend Nick Faldo, who continues to make significant contributions to his sport around the world. He now also holds the distinction of being the only employee at CBS Sports who I will occasionally refer to as Sir.”

Phil Mickelson

“Nick is the preeminent English golfer of the modern era. His skill in controlling the golf ball is legendary. No one was tougher coming down the stretch of a major championship.”

Jim Nantz

How does it get any bigger than this? Sir Nick? I can hardly wait to introduce him on the air that way. Of course we always considered Nick to be royalty over here stateside. I’m just happy the Queen saw fit to finally confirm!”

Nick Faldo

“I was delighted to hear the news that I will be receiving a knighthood and am more than a little bit humbled to have been afforded this great honour. It has come as a real surprise and the reaction from my children, family and friends has made this a very special moment for me. I’ve been playing golf at the highest level for some thirty-five years or more now; it has always been my intention to do my utmost to develop this game both in Britain and abroad and I am also delighted that my efforts through the Faldo Series have been recognised in this way.”

Faldo is only the second professional golfer to receive a knighthood. The first was Sir Henry Cotton who was knighted in 1988.

That’s it. Good night.
