Miami-Dallas Not A Thanksgiving Turkey For CBS

CBS tells us that yesterday’s Miami-Dallas game which was probably the best game of the day, received a 15.3 overnight rating with an amazing 38 share. It’s the highest rating for a Thanksgiving Day game on CBS since the Tiffany Network returned to the National Football League in 1998. Pretty impressive. It’s 2% higher than CBS’ previous Thanksgiving Day game which was New England at Detroit.

If you compare the late afternoon windows head-to-head from this year to last year, the overnight rating for New Orleans-Detroit on Fox in 2010 received a 14.7. So CBS’ 15.3 is quite good.

Here’s the CBS Sports blurb.

“THE NFL ON CBS” FEASTS ON RATINGS FOR MIAMI-DALLAS WITH HIGHEST THANKSGIVING DAY GAME IN 13 YEARS

CBS Sports’ Thanksgiving Day coverage of THE NFL ON CBS on Thursday, Nov. 24, which saw the Dallas Cowboys beat the Miami Dolphins, 20-19, on a last-second field goal, earned an overnight household rating/share of 15.3/38, up 2% from last year’s 15.0/35 (New England-Detroit; early window) and up 21% from the comparable late window in 2009 (12.6/32; Oakland-Dallas).

The 15.3/38 for the Dolphins-Cowboys game is the highest rating for a Thanksgiving Day game in the metered markets on CBS since the Network re-acquired NFL broadcast rights in 1998. The previous high was last year’s 15.0/35.
