Friday Megalinks

Late for links, but let’s get to them without any further delay.

Starting on Friday with USA Today, Michael Hiestand and Michael McCarthy debate what ESPN Ombudsman Le Anne Schreiber discussed in her column this week.

Susan Bickelhaupt of the Boston Globe talks with Fox’ Joe Buck.

Neil Best of Newsday in his Friday column says the Colorado-Arizona National League Championship Series isn’t what TBS had in mind. From Neil’s blog, he reports that SNY has made a new hire. We’ll link to the story later, but Best has reaction to a story by Barry Jackson in the Miami Herald in which Joe Theismann rips Tony Kornheiser. And St. John’s University will need a new outlet for its basketball team as ESPN 1050 has removed it from the schedule.

Bob Raissman of the New York Daily News feels agent Scott Boras is exaggerating Alex Rodriguez’ value to the YES Network.

Over to the New York Post. Justin Terranova has 5 questions for Fox’ Tim McCarver. And Terranova talks with ESPN’s Keyshawn Johnson about New England Patriots’ QB Tom Brady.

Ray Frager of the Baltimore Sun says the NFL Network’s Mic’d Up series will try to find some excitement from last Sunday’s Baltimore-49er game.

Doug Nye in The State says no matter which team gets to the World Series, the TV ratings will most likely be down. Tough to say now. Boston’s fan base is quite high. Nye has his picks for the weekend.

Barry Jackson in the Miami Herald has some pointers for TBS in its MLB Postseason coverage, but there’s that blurb in his column that is making news, the Joe Theismann comments in which he blasts Tony Kornheiser and calls Monday Night Football, “a three hour Tony Kornheiser show.” I think Joe is a little bitter. LOL.

Dave Darling of the Orlando Sentinel talks with ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap about his new show, E:60, the new news magazine that will premiere next week on the Alleged Worldwide Leader.

David Barron writes in the Houston Chronicle about ESPN entering The Masters picture. Interesting anecdote by former CBS Sports President Neil Pilson who tells Barron he purposely kept ESPN out of The Masters in 1982 by selling the cable rights to USA Network.

William Pack of the San Antonio Express-News writes that five Texas state legislators have written the Federal Communications Commission asking it get involved in the NFL Network/Time Warner Cable dispute that could keep two Dallas Cowboys games and one Houston Texans game off local TV.

Paul Christian of the Rochester (MN) Post-Bulletin writes that the Patriots-Cowboys game is the NFL Game of the Week.

Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that NFL Films has documented much of Brett Favre’s career not only on the field, but off.

Jeffrey Flanagan in the Kansas City Star says former Royals, Orioles and Red Sox pitcher Mike Boddicker was an adviser the movie, “The Final Season”.

Jay Posner of the San Diego Union-Tribune talks with CBS Sports’ Dick Enberg who was honored by his alma mater of Central Michigan on Friday. Posner has the ratings for last week in the San Diego market.

The North County Times’ John Maffei no longer likes TBS’ coverage of the MLB Postseason and Frank Caliendo is a big reason why.

To the Ventura County Star where Jim Carlisle writes that the Patriots-Cowboys will be seen across the country… except in California. He explains why.

Christine Daniels of the LA Times writes in her Sound & Vision vision column about the fan reaction to Los Angeles not being able to see the Patriots-Cowboys. And here’s her original column from earlier in the week.

Over to the LA Daily News where Tom Hoffarth writes that the NFL pregame shows are swamped in ads and has his “What Smokes” and “What Chokes” feature. Hoffarth says ESPN’s/ABC’s Dan Fouts has first-hand access to USC. Hoffarth also has his extensive media notes on his Farther Off the Wall blog which includes this great picture of Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard.

Kind of looks like Angelina Jolie there, but I’m not complaining at all.

The Toronto Star’s Chris Zelkovich says the ban of hand-held video cameras in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ locker room has many media members seeing red.

William Houston of the Toronto Globe and Mail looks at the changes in Hockey Night in Canada.

The Sports Media Watch Blog has a synopsis of TV Guide’s interview with Fox’ Joe Buck.

Those are your Friday links. Saturday links will up tomorrow, of course. I’ll have a post on TBS Hot Corner coming up.
