Friday is Finally Here

Let’s get to some links for you.

This Dan Patrick-leaving-ESPN story has grown plenty of legs since July 3 when he said he had a big announcement to make. This site has seen a lot of traffic since the news broke. Yesterday, the Chicago Sun-Times had a tiny brief mention that Dan was joining The Content Factory, until yesterday, an unknown company. Dan’s show will be syndicated from there, but other than that, not much is known about a launch date and what the show will entail. Boston Globe sports media writer Susan Bickelhaupt talked with Dan about his departure.

Michael Hiestand of USA Today writes about a unique approach for CBS which is televising the John Deere Classic PGA tour stop this weekend.

In Newsday, Neil Best has a strange story on SNY’s Mets analyst Keith Hernandez winning the paper’s “Mustache Madness”. Whatever.

The New York Post’s Phil Mushnick has a profile of Mets broadcaster Ralph Kiner.

Laura Nachman of the Bucks County Courier Times writes about the activities of Gary Cobb who’s worked at KYW-TV and Sports Radio WIP.

In the Baltimore Sun, Ray Frager has a bunch of news and notes including the arrival of David Beckham in LA.

Jim Williams of the DC/Baltimore Examiner talks to Gol TV analyst Ray Hudson who’s helping to analyze the Copa America tournament for the all-soccer channel.

Doug Nye of The State newspaper in Columbia, SC says ESPNU will be joining the Time Warner Cable digital lineup next week.

Dave Darling of the Orlando Sentinel looks at a book, “Being There” which has sports journalists and broadcasters listing their favorite sporting events of all time.

Barry Jackson in today’s Miami Herald talks about the shifting of air talent on the two sports radio stations in the market.

In the Houston Chronicle, David Barron talks about one sports radio talk show host who’s in limbo.

Teddy Greenstein in the Chicago Tribune says Wendy Venturini who became the first woman to call a NASCAR race is dubbed the “Barbara Walters” of the sport.

I’ll have more links coming up.
