CBS Sports’ coverage of the SEC ON CBS featuring LSU’s 34-10 win over Texas A&M on Saturday, Nov. 23, earned an overnight household rating/share of 4.8/10, up 100% from last year’s 2.4/5 (Ole Miss-LSU).
QUICK HITS
(On Dallas Cowboys coaching situation)
JASON LA CANFORA: Jerry Jones said Jason Garrett‘s my guy for 2014. That’s being met with a lot of skepticism around the league. If Garrett doesn’t finish strong, no one I’ve talked to necessarily believes he’s going to be back. Jones has done this in the past, said a guy’s going to be back and he’s gone. Mike Holmgren is one former coach, a Super Bowl-winner, who would be interested in going there.
DAN MARINO, BILL COWHER, SHANNON SHARPE and BOOMER ESIASON discuss Jerry Jones‘ involvement in Dallas after the Cowboys owner assured everyone that Jason Garrett‘s job was safe.

COWHER: It certainly makes a very challenging to stand up there as a head coach and hold people accountable and make tough decisions. But one thing I’ll say about the guy (Jones), he’s not afraid to make change. He’s committed to winning. It’s a blessing and a curse. There is no question about it. It does make it difficult at times. But he is all-in. As far as Jason Garrett, it’s difficult because the one voice to me should be the head coach, not the owner.
(On Jets head coach Rex Ryan)
DAN DIERDORF: I think Rex Ryan has done his best job this year in coaching the Jets. If he is not the coach of the Jets next year, it’s going to be a grave mistake.
JIM ROME RANTS ON BRADY vs. MANNING, RGIII,
(On Denver’s Manning vs. New England’s Brady): Peyton Manning and Tom Brady both want this game badly. But it says right here, Manning need it’s worse…Make no mistake, if 18 can’t win this game in November, he’s got no shot at winning it in January. Manning has to man-up. He has to have this game tonight.
(On Robert Griffin III): Robert Griffin III may be a freakish natural talent, but he is no natural leader. A leader does not make his worst throw of his career and run his teammates right under the bus by saying that nobody got open. And he doesn’t crack the coaching staff by saying the opponent knew what they were running…Here’s a piece of advice, after your next loss it’s ‘I’ and ‘me’, not ‘they’ and ‘he.’ Because right now, RGIII is RG 3-7.
SHANNON SHARPE (On Colin Kaepernick): Rome, you and I have debated a lot of topics over the years. The one guy I want to debate you on today is Colin Kaepernick. I do not see him as being an elite level quarterback moving forward. The NFL has said unless these read-option quarterbacks’ first step backwards, he can be treated as a running back. Teams are starting to punish that guy. Unless he becomes a better thrower of the football, I do not see him as that guy that jumped on the scene last year and surprised everybody with his ability to run the football and throw it with his second option. Unless he improves as a thrower, I don’t see him having great success moving forward.
THAT OTHER PREGAME SHOW (TOPS) NOTES
JASON LA CANFORA discusses if the Buffalo Bills will move to Toronto
(On possibility of Jon Bon Jovi being future owner of Buffalo Bills)
La Canfora: The league wants to keep this (Buffalo Bills) a regional franchise. I can tell you one interesting name in that fray though. Jon Bon Jovi has significant interest about trying to purchase that team and run that team. I’m told he added legs to his tour to spend more time in Buffalo. He’s been around hobnobbing and meeting various power brokers in that area. He even fired Richie Sambora, his longtime guitarist to save cost to be more liquid to go buy an NFL team.
ADAM SCHEIN, AMY TRASK, BART SCOTT and BRANDON TIERNEY discuss recent bad calls by football officials and what should be done to fix this problem
AMY TRASK: I get it. The rule book is thick. It’s complex. It’s detailed and that is the problem… How about I propose a new rule? It’s called the GFJ. Use your “Good Football Judgment.” I don’t think those were good football judgments whether they were strict to the letter of the law or not. I thought it was a bad call in the San Francisco-New Orleans game. I thought it was a bad call in the New England-Carolina game.
(On fine on Ahmad Brooks)
BART SCOTT: They protect certain quarterbacks a little bit differently. The fact that it was Drew Brees means that, ‘Oh it’s Drew Brees.’ As a defender, if I’m going to get fined, I’m going to get fined for something. I’m going to hit that quarterback so hard that he’s not getting back up and he’s done for the day… and when defenders catch the football I’m cutting knees out. I’m going to make a statement. If you guys don’t want to protect me, and you want to fine me, you ‘re going to run out of offensive players to play football because you’re telling me as a defender I don’t matter as much because that guy sells tickets.
(On Dallas Coaching Situation)
TRASK: The great thing when you’re an owner is that you can say what you want, you can mean what you say, and you can change your mind. In 2010 Jerry Jones announced that Wade Phillips will not be fired during the football season. Wade Phillips was fired during the football season. That’s the great thing about being an owner.
That’s it for this post.
