Stopping Cam
I am curious about this game. Cam Newton is no longer a secret to anyone. Now that LSU has seen him basically devastate four SEC defenses, I wonder if they will try to come up with something unique to stop Cam? Or will they play their base defense and say, ‘You’re the best offense. We are the best defense and let the best man win.’ Or will they say, ‘No we are coming after Cam and you are going to have to do something else to beat us besides let Cam run.’ I’ve called coaches around the country, some of the main experts in college football who have faced similar running quarterbacks. I got a cross-section of opinions on how to handle a big-time running quarterback like this. You think there would be unanimity on it. But it’s like talking to 10 different weathermen about the weather. You talk to 10 different defensive coordinators and they give you 11 different ideas on how to stop him. I find it fascinating that the defensive coaches have no answers at their fingers tips. Are you just going to stand there in your base defense and see if he’s good enough? Or are you going to say he’s gifted enough that I have to change? Basketball teams play a box-and-one, baseball teams walk the best hitter. Do football teams have something to do to try to take the ball out of his hands?
Something’s Gotta Give
The worse thing that LSU does is throw the football. The worse thing that Auburn does is defend the pass. It’s a curious match-up, who is going to crack? LSU has been woeful and Auburn has been worse on their best week.
Perfect Les
You have the embattled Les Miles, who keeps winning. If you look at a picture where they put together many pictures of different people’s faces, when you are real close it’s like a mash of nothing.  And when you back away it’s a beautiful picture. That is how it is when you look at LSU. It seems like they are making all these mistakes. They are playing two quarterbacks. They are a bad passing team. They are lining up wrong and clock management is bad. But when you back away, they are perfect. It’s a wonder if he can do it again. All these things seem to be working against them, yet they keep on doing great things. Can Les keep this thing rolling along again?

Renewed Rivalry
This rivalry was dormant for better than 40 years, but right now these two teams legitimately stand toe -to-toe despite the talent differences and limitations facing Navy. I look at the competitive nature of this match-up being primarily because of how far Navy has come to be able to challenge a program like Notre Dame on a regular basis.
On Navy
After having just seen Navy deal with and beat SMU and June Jones’ ‘run and shoot’ offense, I can’t wait to see how they approach Brian Kelly’s fast-paced Irish spread-option aerial attack. Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo and his staff do a fine job of game-planning for opponents and they take advantage on the field of the discipline and attention to detail that the Naval Academy demands of their Midshipmen.
On Notre Dame
It doesn’t take a long time of watching game DVD’s to see that Notre Dame is on their way back to football prominence. Players like WR Michael Floyd, TE Kyle Rudolph (out for season), LB Manti Te’o, QB Dayne Crist, RB Armando Allen and the beginnings of a return to dominance at the lines of scrimmage all point to great things to come.

And we’ll have more stuff coming up.
