CBS Gains Biggest Viewership for AFC Playoffs in 23 Years

This just in from CBS Sports, we find that the Tiffany Network had it’s highest viewership for the AFC side of the NFL playoffs going back almost two and a half decades. The average viewership was over 40 million people. We have the press release.

CBS Sports’ Coverage of 2011 AFC Playoffs Averages 40.291 Million Viewers

CBS Sports’ coverage of the AFC PLAYOFFS for the 2010-11 season averaged 40.291 million viewers (Persons 2+), which is the highest viewer average for the AFC Playoffs in 23 years dating back to the 1987-88 season (as far back as existing CBS records).

The 40.291 million viewers scored an increase of 14% over last season’s average of 35.207 million viewers.

The four games of this season’s AFC PLAYOFFS on THE NFL ON CBS earned an average national household rating/share of 22.3/40, the highest average rating/share for the AFC PLAYOFFS in 15 years (22.6/45; 1995-96; NBC).

This year’s 22.3/40 was up 11% from last year’s 20.1/37, and up 23% from an 18.2/32 for the 2008-09 season.

Overall for the 20 weeks of coverage of the 2010-11 NFL ON CBS regular-season and AFC PLAYOFFS, the Network averaged 21.564 million viewers (Persons 2+), the highest viewer average for the AFC television package in the regular-season and post-season in 23 years dating back to the 1987-88 season (as far back as existing CBS records).

The 21.564 million viewers was an increase of 10% over last season’s average of 19.535 million viewers.

Through the 20 weeks, THE NFL ON CBS earned a national household rating/share of 12.6/25, the highest average rating/share for the AFC television package for the regular-season and post-season in 16 years (13.9/32; 1994-95; NBC).

This year’s 12.6/25 for 20 weeks of THE NFL ON CBS was up 9% from last year’s 11.6/24, and up 14% from an 11.1/23 for the 2008-09 season.
