Auburn-Alabama Gets Stellar Ratings on CBS

Many of you had the day off on Friday and having a great football game like Auburn-Alabama where the Tigers came back to win 28-27 after spotting Alabama a huge lead just helped to pass the day. I came back from work in time to watch the final quarter and it was compelling television to say the least.

The rating for CBS was a 7.5 with an 17 share which makes this the most watched college football game of 2010. That will most likely change with the BCS National Championship Game, but 7.5 is an amazing rating.

Here’s the press release from CBS Sports.

“SEC ON CBS” COVERAGE OF “IRON BOWL” SCORES HIGHEST RATING OF 2010 COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON
The SEC ON CBS’ coverage of the “Iron Bowl” on Friday, Nov. 26, which saw undefeated and *No. 2-seeded Auburn beat *No. 11-seeded Alabama, earned an overnight household rating/share of 7.5/17, up 56% from last year’s 4.8/11 (No. 2-ranked Alabama-Auburn). This 7.5/17 is the highest-rated college football game of the 2010 season on any network in the metered markets.
The 7.5/17 was the highest-rated Friday college football game on CBS Sports in the metered markets since college football returned to the Network in 1996. The previous high was a 5.1/11 for Arkansas-LSU on 11/23/07.
The Auburn-Alabama game rating/share peaked at 10.6/21 from 6:00-6:15 PM, ET.

Those are amazing numbers especially for college football.
