With many golfers flying across the Atlantic Ocean to get ready for the Open Championship, there’s a depleted field for this week’s PGA Tour event on CBS Sports.

KENNY PERRY DEFENDS TITLE AS CBS SPORTS TEES UP

JOHN DEERE CLASSIC ON JULY 11 &12

Kenny Perry is aiming for his third PGA TOUR victory this year after winning in his previous start at the Travelers Championship on CBS two weeks ago. Perry, currently No. 2 in the FedEx Cup standings, defends his title in what historically is a haven for first-time PGA TOUR winners. CBS Sports broadcasts third- and final-round coverage of the JOHN DEERE CLASSIC on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET; both days) live from TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.

Last year, Perry, Brad Adamonis and Jay Williamson battled back-and-forth in the final round and eventually ended in a playoff with Perry winning on the first extra hole. The JOHN DEERE CLASSIC once again hosts a strong field as Perry defends his title against 2009 U.S. Open winner Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, Steve Stricker, David Duval, Davis Love III, Aaron Baddeley, Rich Beem, Chad Campbell, Tom Lehman, Jesper Parnevik, Mark Calcavecchia, Brandt Snedeker, Scott McCarron, J.J. Henry, Steve Elkington, Adamonis, Williamson, along with past champions John Senden (2006), Mark Hensby (2004), J.P. Hayes (2002) and J.L. Lewis (1999), as well as.

CBS Sports’ announce team of Bill Macatee and Ian Baker-Finch in the 18th tower, David Feherty on the 17th hole, and Bobby Clampett on the course reporting, call the action.

NBC Sports will have the 3rd major for Women’s Golf, the U.S. Women’s Open from Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA.

NBC SPORTS BROADCASTS LIVE COVERAGE OF U.S. WOMEN’S OPEN

NBC’s Pepper on the Open: “This is the best event in women’s golf; there’s nothing even close.”

NEW YORK – July 8, 2009 – NBC Sports will broadcast live coverage of the most prestigious event in women's golf, the U.S. Women's Open from Saucon Valley Country Club's Old Course in Bethlehem, Pa., Saturday and Sunday, 3-6 p.m. ET.

Dan Hicks will host NBC's coverage alongside Johnny Miller and Dottie Pepper, who competed in 19 U.S. Opens in her illustrious career. They are joined by tower reporter Gary Koch, and course reporters Roger Maltbie and former LPGA players Jane Crafter and Kay Cockerill.

"This is the best event in women's golf; there's nothing even close," said Pepper. "An Open will challenge you in every way – the length, slope, speed of greens. You'll hit shots that you've never hit before. You need to be mentally rested coming into it. You have to be patient, know you're not going to be perfect."

Inbee Park looks to defend her title, challenged by past champions Christie Kerr (2007), Birdie Kim (2005); Laura Davies (1987); Julie Inkster (1999, 2002); Meg Mallon (1991, 2004); Se Ri Pak (1998) and Karrie Webb (2000, 2001). Other top competitors include Lorena Ochoa, Kristy McPherson, Morgan Pressel and Paula Creamer.

Saucon Valley is hosting its sixth USGA Championship including U.S. Senior Opens in 1992 and 2000. The Old Course regularly ranks among the top 100 courses in Golf Magazine.

And NBC and Universal Sports team up to carry the U.S. National Swimming Championships featuring a star-studded field.
