Traditional AFC Rivalries, Key AFC-NFC Match-Ups and Thanksgiving Day Game Highlight CBS Television Network’s NFL Schedule
The CBS Television Network, marking its 52nd year of coverage of the NFL, will broadcast a total of 106 games during its 17 weeks of regular-season coverage of the NFL’s American Football Conference. The regular-season schedule is followed by a full post-season slate including an AFC Wild Card playoff game on January 8, 2012, two divisional playoff games on January 14 and January 15 and the AFC Championship Game on January 22.
- AFC CHAMPIONS PITTSBURGH AND AFC SOUTH CHAMPIONS INDIANAPOLIS SLATED FOR NINE APPEARANCES; AFC EAST CHAMPIONS NEW ENGLAND, NEW YORK JETS, BALTIMORE AND SAN DIEGO SLATED FOR 10 APPEARANCES; WHILE AFC WEST CHAMPIONS KANSAS CITY AND JACKSONVILLE SLATED TO MAKE 11
Last year’s Super Bowl XLV runner-up and AFC Champions Pittsburgh Steelers and AFC South Champions Indianapolis Colts will appear nine times each on THE NFL ON CBS, along with AFC East Champions New England Patriots, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and San Diego Chargers will make 10 appearances each; AFC West Champions Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars will make 11 appearances each; the Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins will appear 12 times each; the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns 13 times each; and the Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills 14 times each.

THE NFL ON CBS’s 2011 broadcast schedule, which includes nine doubleheader weekends, features several of last year’s powerhouse teams in the AFC and key AFC-NFC match-ups including New England-Pittsburgh (10/30); New England-Philadelphia (11/27); New York Jets-Philadelphia (12/18); San Diego-New England (9/18); Indianapolis-Baltimore (12/11); San Diego-Chicago (11/20); San Diego-New York Jets (10/23); Denver-Green Bay (10/2); Kansas City-Chicago (12/4); New York Jets-Oakland (9/25); Buffalo-New York Giants (10/16); Miami-New York Giants (10/30); Buffalo-Dallas (11/13); New York Jets-Washington (12/4) and New England-Washington (12/11).
- AFC DIVISIONAL RIVALRIES
Along with near-weekly divisional battles, AFC games highlighted include interdivision rivalries in the North in Week 1 with Pittsburgh-Baltimore (9/11); in the East in Week 5 with New York Jets-New England (10/9); and Week 17 with teams from the four AFC Divisions squaring off against each other in games that could have major playoff implications: New York Jets-Miami, Buffalo-New England, Baltimore-Cincinnati, Pittsburgh-Cleveland, Tennessee-Houston, Indianapolis-Jacksonville, Kansas City-Denver and San Diego-Oakland (1/1/12).

Thanksgiving Day (11/24) will feature the Miami Dolphins at Dallas Cowboys.
- OPENING KICK-OFF
THE NFL ON CBS kicks off Week 1 with singleheader coverage on Sunday, Sept. 11 (12:00 Noon-4:00 PM, ET) beginning with THE NFL TODAY, the Network’s pre-game studio show.
The day’s NFL action is highlighted by AFC North rivals Pittsburgh at Baltimore and the “Battle of Ohio” with Cincinnati taking on Cleveland. Other regional action that day on THE NFL ON CBS includes Indianapolis-Houston, Tennessee-Jacksonville and Buffalo-Kansas City games live on the CBS Television Network.
- PRESEASON
CBS Sports’ NFL pre-season schedule begins Friday, Aug. 26 (8:00 PM, ET) live in prime time with the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers take on the Indianapolis Colts. The Network’s second pre-season game sees the New England Patriots visiting the Detroit Lions live in prime time on Saturday, Aug. 27 (8:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.
Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are the lead announce team for the Network’s coverage of THE NFL ON CBS. THE NFL TODAY, CBS Sports’ NFL pre-game, halftime and post-game studio show, begins on Sunday, Sept. 11 (12:00 Noon-1:00 PM, ET) with host James Brown, along with analysts Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason, Shannon Sharpe and Bill Cowher.
