RichRod Joins CBS Sports Network

I have a couple of announcements from CBS Sports Network as it continues to branch out as an extension of CBS Sports. Former Michigan and West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez is stepping into the broadcast booth to become a college football analyst for CBS Sports Network. He’ll mainly work games with Dave Ryan, but also go into the studio for various college football shows. Here’s the announcement.

RICH RODRIGUEZ JOINS CBS SPORTS NETWORK’S 2011 COLLEGE FOOTBALL BROADCAST TEAM AS GAME AND STUDIO ANALYST

Former University of Michigan football head coach Rich Rodriguez joins CBS Sports Network as a game and studio analyst for the 2011 college football season.  The announcement was made today by David Berson, Executive Vice President, CBS Sports and President, CBS Sports Network.

Rodriguez will team with veteran play-by-play announcer Dave Ryan to call games, and also be part of the Network’s weekly studio programming originating from New York City.

“Rich is an accomplished, well-recognized coach with a wealth of knowledge about the game,” said Berson.  “Rich was an integral part of our Signing Day and Draft coverage.  We are excited to add him to our already strong line-up of football talent and look forward to showcasing his analysis and insights during the upcoming season.”

Most recently, Rodriguez was the head coach at Michigan from 2008-10.  He also coached West Virginia from 2001-07, where he led the Mountaineers to a 60-26 record, including four Big East titles and six consecutive bowl bids.  In 2007, Rodriguez was named the AFCA Region I co-Coach of the Year, and was the Big East Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005.  Rodriguez’s Mountaineer teams recorded three consecutive seasons with double digit victories (2005-07), the first time in school history, as well as managed at least eight wins during his last six seasons.

Rodriguez began his collegiate head coaching career at NAIA/Division II Salem College in 1988, followed by Glenville State College (1990-96), where his teams won or shared four consecutive West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles (1993-96).  Rodriguez played defensive back at West Virginia (1981-84) and was a three-year letter-winner (1982-84).  He earned his bachelor’s degree from the school in 1986.

That is all. Another CBS Sports Network announcement is coming up.
