st. louis CARDINALS, BOSTON RED SOX & a race to the al pennant HIGHLIGHTED IN NEW 1967 EPISODE OF bASEBALL’S SEASONS
Episode features stellar performances by future Hall of Famers Carl Yastrzemski, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Roberto Clemente and Mickey Mantle

Secaucus, N.J., January 12 – A new episode of Baseball’s Seasons premieres this Wednesday, January 13 on MLB Network with a focus on the most memorable moments of the 1967 Major League Baseball season. The episode, from the documentary-style series created by Major League Baseball Productions, focuses on the St. Louis Cardinals’ return to the top of the NL, led by ace Bob Gibson, unanimous MVP Orlando Cepeda and base-stealing star Lou Brock. Gibson later had three wins in a seven-game World Series that saw the Cardinals come out on top of the Boston Red Sox.
The episode also covers the “impossible dream” season for the Boston Red Sox. Led by rookie manager Dick Williams, aided by rookie centerfielder Reggie Smith and carried by the last Triple Crown winner Carl Yastrzemski, the Red Sox compiled one of the most exciting and out-of-nowhere seasons ever seen. At the heart of the team was Yastrzemski, whose season allowed him to fully emerge from the shadows of Red Sox legend Ted Williams and become a Boston icon in his own right. The episode also highlights the race to the AL Pennant as the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins were all within two games of first place with one week to go in the season; as well as memorable accomplishments by Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente and Mickey Mantle.
As the series examines each year in the context of the time’s culture and society, the 1967 episode is depicted against a summer of unrest in the United States as civil rights demonstrations were building and opposition to the Vietnam War spread, including heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali’s refusal to join the war effort and the growth of the hippie movement.
The episode will air on Wednesday, January 13 at 8:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. PT. A preview of the 1967 episode can be viewed here.
Additional episodes of Baseball’s Seasons, including 1987, 2003 and 2004, will debut on MLB Network through February 2010. Episodes featured since MLB Network launched on January 1, 2009 include 1959, 1961, 1968, 1982, 1986, 1993, 1995 and 2001.

And we have quotage from the premiere of Seth “Damien” Davis’ show on CBS College Sports.

NEWS, NOTES AND QUOTES FROM PREMIERE OF “COURTSIDE WITH SETH DAVIS” ON CBS COLLEGE SPORTS NETWORK
Tennessee Coach Bruce Pearl and Kansas Coach Bill Self Joined as Guests Along with CBSSports.com’s Gary Parrish, Sports Illustrated’s Luke Winn and the Sporting News’ Mike DeCourcy
CBS COLLEGE SPORTS NETWORKs COURTSIDE WITH SETH DAVIS, a weekly one-hour primetime college basketball talk show, premiered on Monday, Jan. 11 (9:00 PM, ET). College Basketball expert Seth Davis hosts the show. Each week the hard-hitting, fast paced program will focus on all the latest news, storylines and inside scoop in the world of college basketball.
The premiere episode features interviews with Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl and Kansas coach Bill Self. College basketball reporters Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com, Luke Winn from Sports Illustrated and the Sporting News’ Mike DeCourcy join Davis for the writers’ roundtable segment. Throughout the season COURTSIDE WITH SETH DAVIS will talk with a variety of high-profile guests from the college basketball community, including coaches, writers and broadcasters.
COURTSIDE WITH SETH DAVIS airs each Monday throughout the college basketball season at 9:00 PM, ET. Mike Aresco serves as Executive Producer. Tim Weinkauf and Tyler Hale produce.

The following are excerpts from the show:
(SETH DAVIS TALKING TO BRUCE PEARL ABOUT THE DISMISSAL OF TYLER SMITH AND THE SUSPENSION OF THREE OTHER PLAYERS)
Seth Davis: Let’s talk now about the events of the past week and how you’re handling it as a coach. I’m sure it’s pretty challenging for you…You had four players who were arrested, but only one, Tyler Smith, so far has been dismissed. Why has Tyler been dismissed, but not the other three?
Bruce Pearl:  I think in order to treat people fairly, you can’t treat them all the same. What we did was, we looked at the incident and we were able to determine who was responsible for what. The guys from the very beginning have been very forthcoming with me, honest and accountable. And when it became clear more of the circumstances of what Tyler was responsible for, that resulted in his dismissal. The other three are still suspended indefinitely. And Seth, I think this week more of the facts will come out and we’ll be able to give some more information about when those guys are likely to come back. But all three of them do have a chance to come back and join the basketball team this year.
Davis: So you think we’ll have those decisions done by this week?
Pearl:   I think by the end of this week, we’ll have enough information to know when exactly they will return.

I have another press release post coming up.
