College Football Previews for Week 11

Let’s see what the networks are saying about the upcoming college football action later today.

Starting with FSN and what was said during its SEC Gridiron Live show this week.

SEC Gridiron LIVE – Week Eleven

In Case You Missed It:

With Randy Cross out on assignment – a cardboard cut out replaced Randy in the studio – SEC Gridiron LIVE’s Charles Davis, David Pollack and Cassidy Hubbarth and the fans on Facebook and Twitter had a little fun at his expense.

· David Pollack – “I tell you, he is on point right now. He hasn’t said one thing I disagree with yet.”

· RickCaffeinated – Seems a little less stiff J

They Said It:

David Pollack on Mark Ingram and the Alabama run game

· “Let’s hear a little Heisman. This guy is earning it. Rarely do you have a back who has speed, power and vision. This guy has got it all.”

Charles Davis on what Florida needs to work on

· “It is hard wearing a 19-game winning streak. The pressure ratchets up, and despite the fact that you want to play loose, you play tight because you don’t want to lose that streak. They’ve got to find a way to have some fun.”

David Pollack on the Tennessee defense

· “They’ve got a lot of talent. Twelve fumbles recovered, tied for the SEC lead. You know how fumbles are caused? They are caused by flying to the football. Fumbles aren’t caused by accident. People just don’t go ‘Here, take the ball.’ It’s putting your hat on the ball and then making big plays, and they are doing that. They are flying around, making plays all over the field.”

Charles Davis on LSU moving from No. 9 to No. 8 in the BCS standings

· “It tells you about the level of respect in the SEC to lose and go up in the BCS standings.”

David Pollack on Alabama’s red zone play

· “If they want to win an SEC Championship and a National Championship, they’ve got to be more efficient in the red zone.”

SEC Gridiron LIVE names the Top 5 “Alabama / Florida SEC Football Championships”

5. 1992 – First-ever SEC title game; Alabama goes on to win the national title

4. 1994 – First game played in the Georgia Dome

3. 1996 – Danny Wuerffel throws for 401 yards; Florida goes on to win the national title

2. 1999 – Alabama scores 19 points in the fourth quarter to beat Florida

1. 2008 – Last year’s instant classic

Social Media Sound Off:

In response to the Auto-Owners Insurance Thumb It In question – Aside from Florida and Alabama, which team will have the strongest finish?

· Jim Mansour – Wish I could say UGA but I’m afraid it will be Tenn.

Sam Fields – Auburn’s offense will give them the edge. Since both defenses are nonexistent. The Auburn offense will easily out duel the turnover-prone Georgia offense. 45-21.

AUDIBLES with CBS COLLEGE SPORTS NETWORK Analyst AARON TAYLOR

(On Utah – TCU game):

TCU statistically dominated Utah last year, but two turnovers, two missed field goals and 11 penalties ended up costing them in the end. This year’s team is more mature and talented, and seems to be more focused. Imperative to their success is for them to play within themselves and not try to do anything cute. In football, more games are lost than won, so TCU needs to eliminate the penalties and turnovers that plagued them last year.

(Keys to Utah -TCU):

Utah will be starting a true freshman quarterback, Jordan Wynn, who had an impressive debut versus New Mexico last week throwing for almost 300 yards and two touchdowns. The strength of TCU’s defense, however, is their ability to pressure the passer with effective blitz schemes and sack master defensive end Jerry Hughes. It will be imperative for Utah to run the football to not only stay balanced, but to alleviate unnecessary pressure on the promising quarterback. Keep your eye on junior running back Eddie Wide, who is averaging about six yards per carry and has had a school record six straight 100+ yard rushing games. With the successful winning history between the schools, as well as the national implications involved, this has the chance to be an epic match-up.

(On Houston Quarterback Case Keenum and his Heisman Candidacy):

I am a Heisman voter, and when discussing the candidates, I frequently find myself having to preface the conversation by differentiating between who SHOULD win, and who WILL win. Unfortunately for players like Case Keenum, they rarely garner the attention they deserve because they come from a small, non-traditional powerhouse, and are accused of playing in a “system.” Well, the “system” that Keenum plays in, is the one head coach Kevin Sumlin learned as the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma, and that seemed to work out well for Sam Bradford. Keenum has consistently played outstanding versus top notch competition. His mechanics and ability to read defenses and physically release the football quickly are unparalleled in college football.

That’s it for this post. Some weekend programming previews coming up.
