Since that game last year Arkansas has really learned what it takes to play in the SEC. Their players and coaches were humiliated pretty good against Alabama last year. It’s one of the reasons Ryan Mallet came back this year. That game left a bad taste in his mouth. The whole team saw what was necessary to win at this level.(Petrino’s Team): Bobby Petrino really has his team now. Much like Nick (Saban), he has a vision of how he recruits people and how he builds his team to run the system that he wants to run. That system is the only system he can run to be successful for Bobby Petrino. Much like Nick, it took him a couple of years. Now looking at this team it really resembles the type of team he had at Louisville; big bodies, good quarterback and lots of receivers. They really have no glaring week spot on their offense so he makes you cover all his fast little receivers. It’s Nick who spent three years putting his defense together and his vision the way he likes to recruit and identify kids. And it’s the same thing with Bobby. He has gone and recruited kids that fit his image.(Ryan Mallet – Future NFL Star): Everyone knew what Ryan (Mallet) was before he went to Michigan. Ryan was one of those guys that went to Michigan because of the history of (Tom) Brady, Chad Henne and what was before him. He went there to be a pro quarterback. That didn’t work out for him. Now this is the culmination of what everyone knew about Ryan. He was a great player waiting for a great team to be built around him. He is going to be the next $40-50 million quarterback that the NFL is going to have to find a spot for. Someone will see him as the perfect guy. There is never a guarantee that someone is going to be a great quarterback, but he has no obvious weakness. The only thing that could hold him back would be if he loses focus and doesn’t put the effort into being a pro. If he puts the effort into it, he’s going to be very successful. He’s benefited from two things. He has the closest college offense to what he’ll be playing in the NFL and he is playing in the conference that most closely resembles the NFL in its style of play and level of athletes.(Saban’s Offense): It’s kind of ironic for the coach that believes that defense wins, because he is going to have to ride his offense for him to win this year. That is unfamiliar territory for Nick. He is out of that same mold of coaches that have done it before. Bill Belichick believed, and Nick is one of his disciples, that you always build a championship team around your defense. But when he (Belichick) got Brady and (Randy) Moss, he said, ‘When you’re that good, you just have to ride what you have.’ And they did it. For Nick it doesn’t mean he isn’t going to try to play good defense. But he has an offense that might carry him to another championship.
