Catching Up on College Football Stuff

I have some releases from the networks from Monday and I should post them. Let’s start with a short blurb from CBS Sports announcing its SEC game selection for November 7.

CBS Sports has announced its college football game for Saturday, Nov. 7 (3:30-7:00 PM, ET) will feature *No. 9-ranked LSU at *No. 2-ranked Alabama. Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson will call the contest, along with reporter Tracy Wolfson. COLLEGE FOOTBALL TODAY kicks off the day (3:00 PM, ET) with host Tim Brando and analyst Spencer Tillman. The game will be available in high definition.

A few things from ESPN. First, College Gameday will heading out west this Saturday.

NEWS, NOTES AND QUOTES FROM “THE TONY BARNHART SHOW” ON CBS COLLEGE SPORTS NETWORK

ACTRESS SELA WARD AND SEC DIRECTOR OF OFFICIATING ROGERS REDDING THIS WEEK ON
“THE TONY BARNHART SHOW” ON CBS COLLEGE SPORTS NETWORK

CBS COLLEGE SPORTS NETWORKS THE TONY BARNHART SHOW, a new weekly one-hour primetime college football talk show features actress and former Alabama Cheerleader Sela Ward, currently starting in the movie The Stepfather and the Southeastern Conference Director of Officiating Rogers Redding on Tuesday, Oct. 27 (9:00 PM, ET).

“Mr. College Football,” Tony Barnhart hosts the show along with Brian Jones. The hard-hitting program debates and analyzes the hot topics and issues facing college football both on and off-the-field. This week Barnhart and Jones, along with former Notre Dame offensive lineman, Aaron Taylor, examine the state of the Irish.

The TONY BARNHART SHOW airs each Tuesday throughout the college football season at 9:00 PM, ET. Mike Aresco serves as Executive Producer. Tyler Hale and Stefan Van Engen produce.

* * * * *

The following are excerpts from the show:

(BARNHART ON THE OFFICIATING):

After this season it may be time to look at a national organization for officials. Officials would still be assigned on a regional basis, but they would be accountable to a national office with no ties to the conference of the games they work. Would this solve all of the problems? Of course not, bad calls are going to always be with us. These guys are human. Human beings make mistakes…But in my opinion, the game has outgrown the current model for handling officials. It’s another change we need to make for the good of the game.

(ROGERS REDDING ON SEC OFFICIATING CONTROVERSY THIS SEASON):

We understand that people are going to make mistakes. We’re human, we make mistakes. It’s fair game to question the officials’ judgment. It’s fair game to question their knowledge of the rules. It’s fair game to question their mechanics that they use in terms of where they are on the field. But when you question their integrity, that crosses the line. That’s where I part company with those who are criticizing football officials, because the integrity is absolutely there. We manage it. We insist on it. And I would put the integrity of every football official I know now or have ever known up against any other profession or anybody in the world…I think criticism of integrity is over the top and it’s unacceptable.

(AARON TAYLOR ON NOTRE DAME):

There are phases about this team that are good, there are phases that are bad and there are phases that are just flat out lucky. Offensively, they are doing a great job. Jimmy Clausen throwing the football. He has really stepped into his maturity role and the leadership roll and doing a great job with this offense. At the skills positions, they are doing a great job. But defensively, they are really, really hurting. They have trouble defending the pass. They don’t get a lot of pressure on the quarterback. They just don’t have the athletes up front…Hey, it’s the luck of the Irish, we got that nickname for a reason. You’ve got to give us some credit. At the least the ball is finally bouncing our way.

(ON FLORIDA)

Taylor: There are some chinks in this armor. What we see out in public, hearing that the coach having to bring together the team so they don’t point fingers. Tebow not meeting with the media afterwards. There are starting to be some chinks in this armor.

Jones: Of course he is (Tim Tebow) frustrated. But we knew coming into this season that he wasn’t going to have the firepower down the field to open up the football field. People are stacking the box, because you know you have to put pressure on Tim Tebow. You don’t have that downfield presence that they had with Percy Harvin, with Louis Murphy. That’s what is so frustrating. He just can’t throw that thing up and expect those guys to go up and get it.

And that concludes this post.
