CBC’s Programming for Days 15 and 16 of the XXII Olympic Winter Games

This weekend marks the end of the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Hockey takes center stage once again. CBC airs both the bronze medal game between the United States and Finland on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET. On Sunday, Team Canada plays for its second straight gold medal facing Sweden at 7 a.m. CBC’s coverage begins at 6 a.m. with a pregame hosted by Ron MacLean, Elliotte Friedman, Kelly Hrudey and Glenn Healy.

Other events this weekend include the four runs of the four man bobsleigh which is spread over Saturday and Sunday. Sportsnet airs the first two runs on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. TSN carries the final two runs in their entirety on Sunday at 4:30 a.m. CBC airs portions of the last two runs before going into its hockey coverage.

And finishing the figure skating coverage, TSN airs the exhibition gala live at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

CBC’S COVERAGE OF THE SOCHI 2014 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES: PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS FOR SAT. FEB. 22 AND SUN. FEB. 23

The final weekend of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be co-headlined by the Men’s Ice Hockey gold medal game and the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 23. Prior to Sunday’s big events, it’s a full day of events on Saturday, Feb. 22 including the Men’s Ice Hockey bronze medal game, Alpine Skiing Men’s Slalom, the Men’s and Women’s Speed Skating 5,000m Team Pursuit events and Men’s Biathlon 4 x 7.5km Relay. Also scheduled for Saturday are the first two runs of Four Man Bobsleigh and the Figure Skating Gala Exhibition.

Before the puck drops on the Men’s Ice Hockey gold medal game on Sunday, CBC has coverage of the Men’s Cross-Country Skiing 50km Mass Start Free as well as the final two runs of the Four Man Bobsleigh. Coverage of Men’s Ice Hockey begins Sunday at 6 a.m. ET with a one-hour pre-show leading into the gold medal game at 7 a.m. ET.

The Closing Ceremony gets underway from Fisht Olympic Stadium at 11 a.m. ET on CBC and simulcast live on CBC News Network, TSN2, Sportsnet and Sportsnet One as well as streaming live at cbc.ca/olympics.

SATURDAY, FEB. 22

OLYMPIC MORNING: 

ALPINE SKIING: MEN’S SLALOM RUN 1 (7:45 – 8:30 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet and CBC

Last year’s World Champion Marcel Hirscher should lead a strong Austrian team in the competition while Germany’s Felix Neureuther and Ivica Kostelic are expected to be in in the medal hunt. Whistler’s Mike Janyk will represent Canada.

SPEED SKATING: MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TEAM PURSUIT FINALS (8:30 – 11 a.m. ET) on TSN and CBC

*CBC will also have coverage of this event at 3 p.m. ET

Women’s: Russia will go against Poland in the Semifinal 1, and Japan will face off against the gold medal favourite, the Netherlands. Winners will advance through to the final. Coverage includes both the semifinal and final.

Men’s: Denny Morrison, Lucas Makowsky and Mathieu Giroux will look to win a bronze medal by beating Poland in the Semifinal 2.

BIATHLON: MEN’S 4X7.5KM RELAY (9:15 – 11 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet

*CBC will also have coverage of this event at 4 p.m. ET

This medal event features the Canadian team of Jean-Philippe Le Guellec, Scott Gow, Scott Perras and Nathan Smith who finished eighth at the 2013 World Championships. Norway, France and Germany are considered favourites heading into the event.

OLYMPIC DAYTIME:

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: BRONZE MEDAL GAME — FINLAND VS. USA (10 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET) on CBC

BOBSLEIGH: FOUR MAN RUNS 1&2 (11:15 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET) on Sportsnet

In the first of four runs in this event, Canada will have three entries piloted Lyndon Rush, Chris Spring and Justin Kripps, respectively. Other teams to watch include Germany, Russia, the United States and Switzerland.

ALPINE SKIING: MEN’S SLALOM FINAL (11:15 a.m. ET) streaming live at cbc.ca/olympics

FIGURE SKATING: GALA EXHIBITION (11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET) on TSN

This exhibition is the final chance to see the world’s best skaters perform at Sochi 2014.

BOBSLEIGH: FOUR MAN RUN 2 (1 – 2:15 p.m. ET) on CBC

Teams look to positions themselves well in the second run. The last two runs of the competition are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 23.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: MEN’S 50KM MASS START FREE (2 – 4:45 a.m. ET) on CBC

Canadians Ivan Babikov and Alex Harvey are expected to compete in this medal event. Johann Olsson of Sweden is the 2013 World Champion and is considered the man to beat. Dario Cologna of Switzerland and Russia’s Alexander Legkov should compete for the podium as well.

BOBSLEIGH: FOUR MAN RUNS 3&4 (4:30 – 7 a.m. ET) on TSN

*CBC will have coverage of this from 4:45 – 6:00 a.m.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: GOLD MEDAL PRE-SHOW (6 – 7 a.m. ET) on CBC

Elliotte Friedman, Ron MacLean, Kelly Hrudey and Glenn Healy will host a pre-show panel discussion in advance of the Gold Medal game.
