CBC’s Programming for Day 4 of the XXII Olympic Winter Games

The full compliment of networks will be utilized for Canada’s coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics. CBC will carry women’s luge while Sportsnet airs the pairs figure skating short program and TSN goes with speed skating and luge.

It’s going to be busy during the 4th day of action during the Sochi Games.

We have the breakdown of what will be seen on which network in Canada for Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from Sochi, a warm weather port city in Russia.

Canadian duos Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford and Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch take to the ice in the Figure Skating Pairs Short Program

Olympic history will be made on Tuesday, Feb. 11 with the debut of Ladies’ Ski Slopestyle and Ladies’ Ski Jumping. Two Canadian Figure Skating teams  look for solid starts to their competitions with the Pairs Short Program while medal events include Men’s and Ladies’ Cross-Country Skiing: Individual Sprint Free, Men’s Snowboard Halfpipe, Ladies’ 500m Speed Skating, Women’s Luge Singles, and Women’s Biathlon 10km Pursuit.

OLYMPIC MORNING: 

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: MEN’S AND LADIES INDIVIDUAL SPRINT FREE (7:00 a.m. – 8:50 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet

*CBC will join this event in progress at 8 a.m. ET

Following the earlier qualifications; the Ladies’ and Men’s quarterfinals begin at 7 a.m. ET, followed by the semifinals at 7:55 a.m. ET with the medal event taking place at 8:20 a.m. ET.

SPEED SKATING: LADIES’ 500M (7:45 a.m. – 11 a.m. ET) on TSN

*CBC will also have live coverage of this event from 8:45 – 9:30 a.m. ET and 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. ET 

Canadian Christine Nesbitt starts her quest for Olympic medals in Sochi, joined by teammates Anastasia Bucsis, Danielle Wotherspoon-Gregg and Marsha Hudex. World record holder, China’s Yu Jing, South Korea’s Lee Sang Hwa and American Heather Richardson will be the women to watch in this event.

LUGE: WOMEN’S SINGLES (9:30 – 10:30 a.m. ET) on CBC 

Canada’s Alex Gough looks to qualify for the Women’s luge final but will have to contend with Germany’s 2013 World Champion Natalie Geisenberger and defending Olympic Champion Tatjana Huefner.

FIGURE SKATING: PAIRS SHORT PROGRAM (9:45 – 1:25 p.m. ET) on Sportsnet

Canada has two strong contenders on the medal hunt with 2014 Canadian Champions Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford, followed closely by former Canadian Champions (2011) Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch. Radford composed the music he and partner Duhamel will be skating to for their short program. The Russians strive to continue their Olympic dominance in Pairs Figure Skating with 2013 World Champions Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov poised to continue the legacy on home soil. Other podium potentials include the German team of Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy who placed second at the 2013 World Champions.

SNOWBOARD: MEN’S HALFPIPE QUALIFICATION (9:55 – 11 a.m. ET) on TSN 2

America’s two-time gold medallist Shaun White returns to uphold his reputation and is favoured to medal again. Switzerland’s Yuri Podladchikov, known as “I Pod” plans to add to his title as the 2013 World Halfpipe Champion. Canada’s line-up includes Brad Martin, Derek Livingston and Crispin Lipscomb.

OLYMPIC DAYTIME:

LUGE: WOMEN’S SINGLES FINALS (11 – 12:45 p.m. ET) on TSN

In her third, Olympic Games appearance, Canada’s Alex Gough looks to win Canada’s first ever Luge medal today.

SKI JUMPING: LADIES INDIVIDUAL NORMAL HILL (12:45 – 2:05 p.m. ET) on TSN

*CBC will also have live coverage of this event from 1:30 – 2 p.m. ET

Canada’s Atsuko Tanaka and Taylor Henrich are in the first-ever field for Ladies’ Olympic Ski Jumping. Top medal contenders include World Champion Sarah Hendrickson of the US, and Japan’s Sara Takanashi who placed second at the World Championships.

OLYMPIC PRIMETIME: 

OLYMPIC PRIMETIME hosted by Ron MacLean, CBC-TV and cbc.ca/olympics will be bringing Canadians context from the fifth day of Olympic Competition from Sochi check local listings for times in your area.

OLYMPIC OVERNIGHT (WEDNESDAY, FEB. 12):

ALPINE SKIING: LADIES DOWNHILL FINAL (2 – 4:10 a.m. ET) on CBC

Slovenia’s Tina Maze will look to take advantage of American Lindsay Vonn’s absence in Sochi t to claim a spot on the podium. Other international skiers to watch include Germany’s Maria Hoefl-Riesch and Laura Gut of Switzerland. Marie-Michèle Gagnon, Brittany Phelan and Larisa Yurkiw are possible contenders to represent Canada in the final for this event.

SNOWBOARD: LADIES HALFPIPE QUALIFICATION (4:45 – 8:05 a.m.) on Sportsnet

Canadians Mercedes Nicoll, Alexandra Duckworth and Katie Tsuyuki go up against an impressive field of seasoned international competitors. Australia’s Torah Bright is the defending Olympic gold medallist, Arielle Gold of the United States is the reigning World Champion while teammate Kelly Clark – a two-time Olympic medallist and 2013 X Games champion – notched her 60th career halfpipe win in 2013.

WOMEN’S CURLING: CANADA VS. GREAT BRITAIN (5 – 8 a.m. ET) on TSN

Canada looks for another a big win when Jennifer Jones’ rink goes up against a formidable Great Britain squad.
