CBC’s Programming for Day 10 of the XXII Olympic Winter Games

Canadians will be dividing their attention between women’s curling on TSN2, women’s hockey on CBC and figure skating on TSN.

Team Canada in women’s curling hopes to remain undefeated as it takes on South Korea at 10 a.m. ET.

Also at 10 a.m., the Ice Dance Free Program with defending gold medalists Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir hoping to overtake Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White who lead after the short program.

And Team Canada hopes to advance to the women’s hockey gold medal game against Switzerland at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Here’s the breakdown for Monday on CBC/Sportsnet/Sportsnet One/TSN/TSN2 for Monday.

In Figure Skating, Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir will look to repeat as Olympic Champions when they compete in the Ice Dance Free Program. Meanwhile, Canada’s Women’s Ice Hockey team will be back in action on Monday in a semifinal match-up against Switzerland at 12 p.m. ET. Canada is once again on a collision course with the powerhouse American team that will also play a semifinal against Sweden at 7:30 a.m ET.

Other medal events on Day 10 include Freestyle Skiing Men’s Aerials, Two Man Bobsleigh, Women’s 12.5km Mass Start Biathlon and Men’s Team Large Hill Ski Jumping. Tuesday morning from Sochi will feature the final of the Women’s 3,000m Relay Short Track Speed Skating.

OLYMPIC MORNING: 

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY:  USA VS. SWEDEN SEMI-FINAL (7:30 – 10:00 a.m. ET) on CBC
Team USA will look to return to the gold medal match with a victory over Sweden.

FREESTYLE SKIING: MEN’S AERIALS QUALIFICATION (8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet
Travis Gerrits was the silver medallist at the 2013 World Championships and will compete for Canada. China should be the team to watch with Qi Guangpu who won gold at the 2013 Worlds and teammate Liu Zhongqing who won bronze at the Worlds in 2013 and at Vancouver 2010.

BOBSLEIGH: TWO MAN FINAL RUNS (9:15 a.m. – 12 p.m. ET) on Sportsnet One
*CBC will join this event in progress at 10 a.m. ET
Germany is expected to lead the way having won gold and silver in 2010. Steven Holcomb and Steven Langton of the USA have won four of six races this year and should compete for a medal. Canadian pilots Lyndon Rush, Chris Spring and Justin Kripps are expected to compete. Monday’s competition will feature the final two runs of the competition.

OLYMPIC DAYTIME: 
FIGURE SKATING: ICE DANCE FREE PROGRAM – FINAL (10 a.m. – 1:35 p.m. ET) on TSN
Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are defending Olympic Champions and will attempt to hold off their American rivals Meryl Davis and Charlie White who are the reigning World Champions. Canada’s other entry is the duo of Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje.

BIATHLON: WOMEN’S 12.5KM MASS START FINAL (10 – 10:55 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet
*CBC will also have coverage of this event at 4 p.m.
Tora Berger of Norway hopes to add to her already impressive list of World and Olympic medals, having captured the Grand Slam in 2013 (five crystal globes in five events). Megan Imrie, Zina Kocher and Rosanna Crawford are expected to compete for Canada. Darya Domracheva of Belarus, the 2013 World Champion, is expected to be a strong contender.

WOMEN’S CURLING: CANADA VS. SOUTH KOREA (10 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET) on TSN 2
Canada looks to remain undefeated as they face off against South Korea.

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY: CANADA VS. SWITZERLAND SEMI-FINAL (12:30 – 2 p.m. ET) on CBC
Canada continues its quest for a fourth consecutive Olympic Championship as it takes on Switzerland with a berth in the gold medal game at stake.

  • This game will also be broadcast on CBC Radio One, starting at 12 p.m. ET.

SKI JUMPING: MEN’S TEAM LARGE HILL FINAL (12 – 2:10 p.m. ET) on Sportsnet One
*CBC will also have coverage of this event at 3 p.m. ET
The teams to watch should include Austria, Germany, Poland and Norway. Austria won the 2013 World Championship as well as the gold at Vancouver 2010 where Germany took the silver and Norway won bronze. Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, Dusty Korek, Trevor Morrice and Matthew Rowley are expected to represent Canada.

FREESTYLE SKIING: MEN’S AERIAL FINALS (12:15- 1:35 p.m. ET) on Sportsnet
All eyes will be on Canada’s Travis Gerrits. As the country’s lone participant, all hopes to claim a medal rest on his shoulders.

CURLING: MEN’S OR WOMEN’S – TIE BREAKER #1 (12 -1:45 a.m. ET) on CBC

ALPINE SKIING:  WOMEN’S GIANT SLALOM (1:55 – 4 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet and CBC
Tina Maze of Slovenia is a Giant Slalom specialist who was the 2013 World Championship silver medallist and is expected to be a force in this event. Marie-Michèle Gagnon, Erin Mielzynski and Marie-Pier Préfontaine should be racing for Canada. This is the first of two runs in the competition with the final run scheduled for 5:30 a.m. ET.

ICE HOCKEY: MEN’S QUALIFICATION PLAYOFF TEAMS TBD (3-5:30 a.m. ET) on CBC

NORDIC COMBINED: MEN’S INDIVIDUAL LARGE HILL JUMPING PORTION (4:25 – 5:30 a.m. ET) on Sportsnet
Defending Nordic Combined Olympic champion, Bill Demong of the U.S. is a medal favourite along with Eric Frenzel of Germany won the 2013 Nordic Combined Title. Bernhard Gruber of Austria and Jason Lamy-Chappuis of France should also be medal contenders.

SHORT TRACK SPEED SKATING: WOMEN’S 1,000M, MEN’S 500M, AND WOMEN’S 3,000M RELAY (4:25 – 6:30 a.m. ET) on TSN
*CBC will join this event in progress at 5:30 a.m.
WOMEN’S 1,000M: With defending gold medal Olympic winner and World 1,000 m Champion Meng Wang out of the running, Canada’s Valérie Maltais, Marianne St-Gelais and Marie-Ève Drolet are on the medal hunt. Jorien Ter Mors of the Netherlands is also a medal contender.
MEN’S 500M: Charles Hamelin is set to defend his title of Olympic Champion at 500m and will be joined by young Charle Conurnoyer and Olivier Jean. Other medal contenders are Viktor Ahn (known has Ahn Hyun-soo) from Russia who received a bronze medal in the men’s 1500m.
WOMEN’S 3,000M RELAY FINAL: Canada’s women’s relay team, Marianne St-Gelais, Valérie Maltais, Marie-Ève Drolet, Jessica Hewitt and Jessica Gregg will defend the Olympic silver medal and try to beat team China who are without Meng Wang. Canada won the silver medal at the 2013 Worlds behind team China who were led by Wang.
