CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada All Over NHL All-Star Weekend

Waiting for Versus’ press release on this, but in the meantime, I have what Canada will be watching through CBC during NHL All-Star Weekend. CBC airs the Super Skills Competition on Saturday, then the All-Star Game itself on Sunday in Raleigh, NC. We have details from CBC.

CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA BRINGS THE NHL ALL-STAR WEEKEND HOME

NHL Super Skills and All-Star Game Highlight the Schedule Beginning Sat, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. ET

Hockey’s biggest stars are coming this Saturday to CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, home to the NHL’s All-Star weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina. This year’s celebration of the NHL’s best players promises to be one of the most exciting all-star games ever played, with several new fan-friendly features both on the ice and throughout the broadcast.

The weekend kicks off Saturday, January 29th at 6:30 pm ET when the NHL Super Skills Competition takes centre stage. NHL All-Stars and the league’s top rookies will show off their moves in six events, including the NHL Fastest Skater, NHL Breakaway Challenge, NHL Accuracy Shooting, NHL Skills Challenge Relay, NHL Hardest Shot and NHL Elimination Shootout. The players will be wired for sound during the competition, allowing viewers to get up close and personal with their favourite players.

During the Saturday broadcast details of a joint CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA/NHL Players’ Association Player’s Poll will be released, covering a wide range of topics such as best/worst ice, easiest/toughest coaches, over/under-rated teams and whether the instigator rule should be abolished.  The findings will be discussed by CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA expert panel, which will include NHL All-Stars Brad Richards, Martin St. Louis and other players to be confirmed. On-air talent for the 2011 NHL All-Star weekend includes Ron MacLean, Scott Oake, Kelly Hrudey and Elliotte Friedman.

The 58th NHL All-Star Game takes over the spotlight on Sunday, January 30th at 4 p.m. ET. The game features an exciting new format where captains Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings and Eric Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes have selected players for their respective sides instead of pitting one conference versus the other. Jim Hughson, Craig Simpson and Glen Healey will call the star-studded event.

The weekend’s NHL festivities will also be streamed live and on-demand at CBCSports.ca (including the Hockey Night 360 All Access Camera), your online destination for informative blogs and breaking news about hockey and highlights from around the NHL.  Tim Wharnsby will be live blogging all weekend, and he and Scott Morrison will break down the All-Star Fantasy Draft as it happens.

We’re done for now.
