Quick Thoughts on Real Sports for 11/25/2008

I received a DVD preview for the latest edition of HBO’s Real Sports that will air on Tuesday at 10 p.m.

I’ve seen two of the stories that air in the newest edition, but the one that has struck me the most is the one on Andrew Lawson of Norwell, MA. Born with Down’s Syndrome, his parents decided early on that Andrew would be mainstreamed, that he would be part of the regular student population and not take special ed classes. Eventually, he became a three sport high school athlete and beloved by his classmates. It’s a special story and one that will definitely give you hope for the next generation.

The other story is on Tim Montgomery’s sudden rise and even harder fall from grace. Montgomery who became the World’s Fastest Human in 2002 talks about his decisions that led to his arrest and subsequent 9 year sentence for various drug charges. It’s a story that makes you want to take Tim and shake him for being a complete idiot. Good interview with Bryant Gumbel.

I hope to have a real time review of this latest edition later this week.
