Videos of the Week – Chaiyya Chaiyya

You’re saying, “What? What?”

Chaiyya Chaiyya. If you went to see Inside Man with Denzel Washington, Clive Owen and Jodie Foster, you’ve heard this song at the beginning and at the end of the movie. In addition, it’s been played on CSI: Miami.

It was originally from an Indian movie called, “Dil Se“, which to be honest, I have not seen, but when someone sent me a link to the video from the movie with the song, “Chaiyya Chaiyya”, I became interested. Now when you watch this video, you’ll notice people on top of a train. This being a “Bollywood” movie, there’s not much budget for CGI and bluescreen, so this was shot outside as the train was moving. Check it out. I like the music, it’s pretty catchy, and the choreography is pretty amazing as well.

Now we know Wikipedia isn’t the best source for information, but there is info on the song and the video.

Here’s the song in the opening credits of “Inside Man”

And this is Chaiyya Chaiyya being performed live in India’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007, kind of like American Idol, by the second place finisher, Raja Hasan. There was even some controversy in this contest which just finished earlier this month. And the performance is pretty decent.

Update – 10/23/07, 11:23 p.m. And here’s the second part of the performance. Forgot to post this originally and here it is. Enjoy.

If you want the full explanation on the movie, “Dil Se”, I give you the link here.

I like the song and I hope you’ll like it too.
