Late Thursday/Early Friday Update

I’ve been working late into the night, but I did want to pass along some late Thursday night links for you. I still have work to do, but I need to take a break from it so what better time to look for links. If that made sense to you, let me know because I’m going on little sleep this week. Anyway, let’s get to the links.

Thanks to The Big Lead blog for the link to this, apparently John Hawkins of the Golf Channel who also writes the Angry Golfer blog for GolfWorld is angry at ESPN for practically dropping the golf highlights from SportsCenter in favor of NASCAR (for disclosure purposes, GolfWorld is affiliated with ESPN.com).

Tom Hoffarth of the Los Angeles Daily News gives the results of the Worst play-by-play broadcaster in his Farther Off the Wall blog. And Hoffarth says ESPN Radio “All Night” host Jason Smith is now on an hour earlier and in effect, goes home an hour earlier as well.

The Albany Times Union’s Pete Dougherty writes in his Best Seat in My House blog that while there will be plenty of TV coverage for the MAAC Tournament, the America East Tourney will have considerably less coverage.

CBS Sports gives us a preview of its Saturday and Sunday college basketball tripleheaders, which includes the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

SI.com picks up an Associated Press story written by Jim Litke about Bob Knight’s hiring by ESPN.

Bob Sutton of the Gaston (NC) Gazette writes that ESPN is invading Durham for the North Carolina-Duke game this Saturday. As expected, College Gameday will be live from Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Robin Berger of TV Technology.com says both CBS and ESPN will offer plenty of new media features to entice fans to watch college basketball this month.

John Dempsey of Variety says the NBA’s TV partners are seeing higher ratings this season, and ESPN is the big beneficiary thus far.

Richard Rosentreter of the Lake Placid (NY) News says it’s no surprise that Mike Eruzione’s goal in the 1980 Miracle on Ice was the “Greatest Highlight” on ESPN. I hope this is the last time I have to reference that hackneyed feature.

Corey Masisak of the Washington Times says NBC is focusing on the wrong players in the Pittsburgh-Washington matchup for its NHL Game of the Week.

The Tampa Bay Newspapers report that the Rays will have 144 games on TV, mostly divided between FSN Florida and Rays TV.

Two press releases from FSN. First, FSN Bay Area will televise 7 San Jose Cybercats Arena Football League road games. And FSN Houston will air its third and final Aeros American Hockey League game tonight.

And that’s going to do it for the links until Friday morning. By the way, there will be an announcement coming in the next few day or so about this blog. Nothing bad, just keep an eye out and you’ll find out soon.
