After spending the last eight seasons in the broadcast booth with Comcast SportsNet Chicago, WGN-TV and WICU-TV as Cubs analyst, Bob Brenly has announced that the 2012 season will be his last. Since 2005, Brenly has been teamed with Len Kasper doing as many as 150 games a season on both CSN Chicago, WGN/WICU.
Brenly served as an analyst with Fox Sports from 1996 until 2000. In between his broadcasting gigs, he managed the Arizona Diamondbacks which included a World Series Championship in 2001. He joined the Cubs broadcast booth after the 2004 season. Since 2007, he’s been an analyst for TBS for the MLB Postseason which has included mostly the League Division Series.
Brenly played for the San Francisco Giants as a catcher retiring in 1989 and beginning his broadcasting the career the following season on WGN Radio.

Cubs analyst Bob Brenly has informed WGN-TV he will not return to the team’s broadcast booth in 2013, and instead will seek another baseball broadcasting position.

I was very blessed to have the best play-by-play man in the game as my partner for eight years and Cubs’ fans are very fortunate to have Len Kasper as the voice of the Cubs. I’ll miss working with him and we look fondly toward returning to Chicago in the future.”

SportsRantz speculates whether Brenly would surface at ESPN.
Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic wonders if Brenly’s heading back to the Diamondbacks in either a coaching or broadcasting position. If Brenly heads to Arizona in a broadcasting position, he would replace Mark Grace who was dropped by the team.
