The Big Ten Network Has A Sports Emmy Nomination

This is our last Sports Emmy press release of the night. Big Ten Network received its second-ever Sports Emmy Award nomination this year. It received a nomination last year in the Outstanding Sports Documentary category. This year, Big Ten Network was tapped for Outstanding Edited Sports Series/Anthology. Here’s the press release.

‘The Journey’ Nominated for a Sports Emmy

Big Ten Network original series recognized as one of the best sports programs on television

CHICAGO – The Journey: Big Ten Basketball 2011, presented by GMC, has been nominated for a Sports Emmy in the category of Outstanding Edited Sports Series/Anthology, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced today.

The Journey is joined by ESPN2’s E:60, CBS’s Championships of the NCAA, HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel and Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the New York Jets.

“This is a tremendous achievement for the Big Ten Network and it’s an honor to be in such outstanding company,” President Mark Silverman said. “The nomination is a great tribute to the phenomenal work of our in-house production team and the great access to student-athletes and coaches that our Big Ten universities provided our team.”

Winners will be announced at the 32nd Annual Sports Emmy Award Ceremony on May 2 in New York.

Ratings for The Journey were up nearly 20 percent this season. This is the fourth season of the series following The Journey: Big Ten Basketball 2010, The Journey: Illinois Football and The Journey: Minnesota Basketball.

It is the second Emmy nomination for the Big Ten Network, which launched in August 2007.  Last year, the network’s “Friends of Jaclyn” episode of Big Ten Short Stories was nominated in the Outstanding Sports Documentary category.

That’s it. We’re done.
