The 2010-11 CCHA TV Schedule

For midwest college hockey fans and there are many, the CCHA has announced its TV schedule and between its TV partners, CBS College Sports, Comcast, Big Ten Network and Fox Sports Detroit, there will be 50 games involving conference teams. I have the overall schedule, then the release from Big Ten Network on the games it will carry this season.

Fifty CCHA Games to be Televised in 2010-11

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association, entering its 40th season of college hockey, has announced the release of its FOX Sports Detroit (FSD), Comcast Television, CBS College Sports (CBSC) and Big Ten Network (BTN) schedules for the 2010-11 season that will feature all 11 conference teams in action. Altogether, 50 games involving CCHA teams will be televised, including 46 conference regular-season and playoff contests.

FOX Sports Detroit celebrates its 14th season of televising CCHA hockey during the 2010-11 campaign with a slate of 11 regular-season games including The Big Chill at the Big House between Michigan and Michigan State to be held at Michigan Stadium (capacity of 109,901) on Dec. 11 that promises to set a new world record for attendance at a hockey game. The FSD lineup also includes a campus-site playoff contest and all the drama from the CCHA Championship at Joe Louis Arena on March 18-19. The first game on Dec. 4 will feature Michigan State and Ferris State in a matchup between the league’s second- and third-place teams last season.

For the first time this season, all of FSD’s college hockey programming will be presented in high-definition.

Nine of the CCHA’s 11 teams will appear in regular-season action on FOX Sports Detroit, including four during the fifth annual ‘Hockey Day in Michigan’ on Saturday, Jan. 29. Miami will visit Notre Dame in the first game at 5:05 p.m., followed by Michigan and Michigan State playing at Joe Louis Arena at 7:35 p.m.

FOX Sports Detroit’s coverage of the CCHA goes to more than 3.2 million cable and satellite households throughout Michigan and portions of Northwest Ohio and Northern Indiana.

Twenty-two conference games, including a pair of CCHA Tournament second-round contests, will be shown as part of Comcast Television’s weekly CCHA package. Comcast drops the puck on the new season by televising Michigan’s first regular-season home game against Mercyhurst of Atlantic Hockey on Oct. 2. All of the CCHA’s members will appear on Comcast at least once and telecasts will originate from the home venues of six schools: Bowling Green, Ferris State, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Western Michigan.

Comcast Television is offered on Comcast’s digital tier, Channel 900, to about 800,000 customers in the state of Michigan.

CBS College Sports has committed to an eight-game package, including a pair of contests from the home venues of Miami and Michigan State while also visiting Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State. The CBSC schedule faces off on Oct. 8 when the RedHawks entertain New Hampshire of Hockey East in Oxford, Ohio.

Matt Shepard will handle play-by-play duties while Dave Starman will serve as the analyst for the CBSC package, which, for the first time, will also feature a CCHA Tournament first-round game during the weekend of March 4-5.

CBS College Sports Network is available across the country via local cable and video providers and nationally on DISH NETWORK (Channel 152) and DIRECTV (Channel 613).

The Big Ten Network (BTN) is set to air five contests involving CCHA teams and will also distribute coverage of The Big Chill at the Big House outside of FOX Sports Detroit’s footprint. Dan Kelly and Billy Jaffe will be in the broadcast booth for CCHA action on BTN, beginning on Dec. 3 when Michigan visits Ohio State.

BTN is available to an estimated 75 million households, through agreements with more than 300 cable, satellite and telco affiliates in all 50 states and Canada.

Here’s Big Ten Network’s Nine Game Hockey Schedule.

Big Ten Network Announces Nine-Game Men’s Ice Hockey Schedule
Network to televise Michigan State-Michigan game in the Big House to a national audience
CHICAGO – Highlighted by “The Big Chill at the Big House” between Michigan and Michigan State, the Big Ten Network will televise nine men’s ice hockey games this winter, featuring all five hockey-playing Big Ten universities.  Every telecast will be live and in high definition, and the network also will produce a post-game show following most of its games.
“The Big Chill at the Big House” on Dec. 11 at Michigan Stadium will be the second straight year that the network has carried an outdoor hockey game. Last year, the network televised the Wisconsin-Michigan game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. This year’s Michigan State-Michigan telecast will be produced by FOX Sports Detroit and distributed nationally by the Big Ten Network.
The Big Ten Network’s schedule begins at 8 PM ET on Nov. 6 when Minnesota hosts border rival Wisconsin at Mariucci Arena. The network will televise one of Minnesota’s return trips to Wisconsin on Feb. 18.
The network will televise the Michigan-Minnesota matchup in the College Hockey Showcase at 5:30 PM ET on Nov. 28.  FSN North will carry some of the remaining games of that event.
At 7:30 PM ET on Dec. 3, the network will televise the first of its three Ohio State-Michigan battles. The first one is at Value City Arena in Columbus, while the Feb. 11 and 12 meetings will take place in Ann Arbor at 7:30 PM ET.
The Big Ten Network will have television coverage of Michigan’s return trip to East Lansing at 7:30 PM ET on Jan. 7.
Additional games throughout the season that would not otherwise receive live coverage will be available via web stream anywhere in the world at www.BigTenNetwork.com. The network’s full streaming schedule for men’s ice hockey will be available at www.BigTenNetwork.com prior to the start the season.
Although the Big Ten Conference does not sponsor ice hockey, member schools have combined to win four of the last nine NCAA Championships and 22 titles throughout history.  Three different Big Ten schools have won national championships in the last eight years.
