A Thursday Update

I was going to make a rain reference in the title as it’s been raining in Eastern Massachusetts, but then I realized it may not be raining where you are so I decided against it. Anyway, I do hope you have decent weather where you’re reading this. We’ve had sporadic downpours this morning.

Anyway, let’s give you some links.

John Miller of Charter Communications tries to explain his company’s position of not carrying the Big Ten or NFL Networks in the Capital Times. Joe Larson of the Lafayette (IN) Journal and Courier writes that local bars will lose business if the Big Ten Network is picked up on local cable. In an editorial yesterday, the Ann Arbor News pleaded with both BTN and Comcast to make a deal.

Bruce Allen of Boston Sports Media Watch says the Boston Globe quickly moved to cleanse an unfortunate choice of words that appeared in a Nick Cafardo story in early print editions.

Todd Spangler of the Multichannel News writes that Verizon high-speed DSL and Fios TV subscribers will be able to watch NFL Network games online. Dan Frommer from Silicon Valley Insider.com explains how this will work. And the Broadband Reports site has more on the story.

CNBC’s Darren Rovell writes that baseball super slimeball Scott Boras claims he’s still representing Alex Rodriguez in the renewed contract talks with the Yankees. But is he really?

Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reviews the Top 50 Paid Athletes in 2007.

Jeff Nelson of the Crawfordsville (IN) Journal-Review writes about his week working in sports television.

Jack Bogaczyk of the Charleston (WV) Daily Mail writes that the West Virginia women’s basketball team will get its own TV package of games for the first time.

Awful Announcing reviews Mike Golic’s admission on the Mike & Mike in the Morning show that he took steroids during his playing career.

Jay Fitzgerald of the Boston Herald reports that fans of the resurgent Celtics are frustrated they can’t watch road games in High Definition.

That will do you for now. I’ll have Primetime Viewing Picks coming up.
