Some more links on this Thursday, then I’ll do the Primetime and Late Night links.
First, Joe Favorito’s Sports Marketing and PR blog has a good entry today about MLB and the Baby Ruth candy bar coming together for a promotion based on the 100th anniversary of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” that will be held at parks around the country on Opening Day.
Over to Newsday’s Neil Best who has a few entries today. He says the Tennis Channel will air the Pete Sampras-Roger Federer exhibition match at Madison Square Garden next month. Neil has the video of Separated-by-birth Marquette coach Tom Crean and Newsday football beat writer Bob Glauber finally meeting yesterday. Unbelievable. And finally, Neil points out the steady decline in the ratings for the NBA All Star Game since TNT picked it up five years ago.
The LA Daily News’ Tom Hoffarth has the results of his week-long readers poll on the best and worst TV sports anchors/reporters/personalities in his blog.
In a story that’s been brewing since last year, Garrett Neese of the Daily Mining (MI) Gazette says ESPN will have to turn over material related to the exhumation of the body of George Gipp. The Gipp family is seeking damages from Gipp’s great-nephew and an author of a book on the late Notre Dame football player. ESPN is not named in the suit.
The Washington Post did a chat today with Deadspin’s Will Leitch to help promote his new book.
AOL Fanhouse’s Michael David Smith is at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis today.
An editorial in today’s Lafayette (IN) Journal & Courier says a deal between the Big Ten Network and the major cable providers, rumored to be in the works, is long overdue.
Mike Reynolds in Multichannel News says last night’s Lakers-Suns game on FSN Arizona garnered the highest ratings ever for a Suns game in Phoenix. Jon Lafayette of TV Week says the game only trailed American Idol.
Those are the links for now. Primetime and Late Night Viewing Picks coming up.
