You could call it “12 on 12” if you wish. A personal aside, when I was working at WPRI-TV in Providence, RI in the early 1990’s, our first block on the 11 p.m. news was called “12 on 12”, 12 minutes of mostly news, 30 seconds of the weather forecast and another 30 seconds of sports. Some local newscasts still do a variation of this, but I’ve been trying to work “12 on 12” into a blog post ever since I restarted this blog in earnest in 2007 and now I have so I can cross one thing off my bucket list.
As I’ve spent 91 words explaining that reference, you’re probably wondering what that has to do with the Big 12 2012 ESPN Big Monday schedule and it’s just a play on numbers. Anyway, ESPN has made its announcement of the Big 12 portion of Big Monday which will consist of eight games, of which four appearances consist of Texas and another four consist of Kansas. You don’t think this is top heavy do you?

ESPN Announces Men’s College Basketball Big Monday Big 12 Schedule for 2012
ESPN and the Big 12 Conference have announced ESPN’s Big Monday Big 12 men’s college basketball schedule for the 2012 season. For the second consecutive year, the schedule will tip off with two telecasts on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Monday, Jan. 16: Texas A&M at Missouri at 5:30 p.m. ET and Baylor at Kansas at 9:30 p.m. All four teams are expected to be in contention for NCAA Tournament bids this season.
The popular weekly series – featuring a doubleheader with the BIG EAST Conference — will then air every Monday during conference play at 9 p.m. from January 23 to February 27 and highlight the nation’s top teams in action. Schedule highlights:
- Kansas and Texas A&M will follow-up the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day appearances with a game against each other in Lawrence January 23. Kansas posted a 64-51 victory in College Station last year.
- Two Big Monday games will showcase two intrastate rivalries as part of ESPN’s Rivalry Week: Texas at Texas A&M February 6 and Kansas at Kansas State February 13. Texas won all three meetings against Texas A&M last year while Kansas and Kansas State split the two games.
- The Big Monday schedule will conclude with Kansas at Oklahoma State February 27. Kansas won both matchups against Oklahoma State last year but lost its most recent game at Oklahoma State on February 27, 2010.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU’s full conference schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
