CBS’ Last U.S. Open Will Bring Back Dick Enberg to Tennis

The 47th U.S. Open for CBS Sports will end with the Tiffany Network covering the only tennis grand slam tournament in the United States for the very last time before ESPN takes over next year.

Bill Macatee, John McEnroe and Mary Carillo will be the main announcing team. Ian Eagle and Jim Courier will also call matches. During Labor Day weekend, CBS Sports Network will pick up coverage of the outer courts and Andrew Catalon and Sam Gore will call the matches along with analysts Taylor Dent and Chanda Rubin.

In a great move, CBS will bring back Dick Enberg to call one match on Sunday, August 31. He’ll be joined by former partners John McEnroe and Mary Carillo.

CBS will air its last Super Saturday with the men’s semifinals on Saturday, September 6 followed by the women’s finals on Sunday, September 7 at 4:30 p.m. ET and the men’s finals on Monday, September 8 at 5 p.m. ET.

Legendary US Open Play-by-Play Announcer Dick Enberg Returns to CBS Sports’ Coverage on Sunday, Aug. 31

CBS Sports presentsthe US OPEN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS, tennis’ final major of the year and the only one played in the United States, for the 47th consecutive year. Live coverage begins on Saturday, Aug. 30 (11:00 AM–6:00 PM, ET) with men’s and women’s third-round action and concludes with the men’s singles championship on Monday, Sept. 8 (5:00 PM, ET). CBS Sports broadcasts over 37 hours of the 2014 US Open live from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Lead play-by-play announcer Bill Macatee is joined by analysts Mary Carillo and John McEnroe in the booth. Jim Courier returns as analyst and calls the action alongside Ian Eagle.
Mary Joe Fernandez serves as reporter, and Adam Zucker as a contributor.

CBS Sports will provide live coverage during both weekends of the event. The 2014 women’s and men’s championships highlight the Network’s live coverage with the women playing on
Sunday, Sept. 7 (4:30 PM, ET) and the men on Monday, Sept. 8 (5:00 PM, ET).

On Sunday, Aug. 24 (1:30-2:00 PM, ET), CBS will air a special program CBS SALUTES THE US OPEN, looking back at the moments and champions that have highlighted CBS Sports’ 46 years of US Open coverage through the announcers who called the action. Bill Macatee hosts and is joined by Dick Enberg, Tony Trabert, John McEnroe, Mary Carillo and Virginia Wade.

Legendary broadcaster and former CBS Sports US Open play-by-play announcer for 12 years Dick Enberg returns on Sunday, Aug. 31 to call a match along with McEnroe and Carillo. Enberg also will be part of the Network’s final weekend coverage, contributing an essay reliving memorable US Open moments. In addition, a vignette series will air on CBS throughout the tournament celebrating the great US Open moments on CBS through the years. The vignettes also are available on CBSSports.com.

The Network also presents TODAY AT THE U.S. OPEN (10:00-11:00 AM, ET), a live studio show from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Luke Elvy serves as studio host with analyst Jimmy Arias, while Andrew Catalon and Sam Gore call the action with analysts Taylor Dent and Chanda Rubin.
