“Tom [Brady] was a guy that really wanted to learn but he did it in an entirely positive way so I was always more than willing to share information with him. As it turns out, I shared too much information with him because the damn guy took my job.” – Drew Bledsoe on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady

Quotes from NFL GameDay First

 NFL Network GameDay First

Every Sunday morning at 7:00 AM ET, NFL Network is first on the field with NFL GameDay First. Host Melissa Stark, co-host/analyst Sterling Sharpe, and analysts Shaun O’Hara and Michael Robinson provide the first analysis of the day’s games, while NFL Network reporters stationed across the league report from stadiums with the first on-location reports of the day.

“I will say it time and time again: I don’t think anyone in the NFL has done more with less than Tom Brady.” – Sterling Sharpe on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady

“He just finds ways to make plays. I think it elevates everyone’s play all around the board, whether it is on the defensive side or the offensive side.” – Shaun O’Hara on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady

“From Seattle’s standpoint, we felt like we had the best defense not only last year but in history. We went into that game really feeling that way. When I talked to the guys on the defense, they took it as a chance to really etch their name in history against a guy like Peyton Manning.” – Michael Robinson on facing Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII

“I think it has to come down to their defense…When they lost the AFC Championship Game last year, they said that they had to get better in their secondary. I think that is the key for them.” – Shaun O’Hara on the New England Patriots facing the Denver Broncos

“What concerns me is the Dallas Cowboys’ protection issues on the offensive line and in the running back position. I think last week, DeMarco Murray really missed some key blitzes that got Tony Romo hit. They have to shore up that communication in the protection unit because it doesn’t matter who is the quarterback: if you don’t know who you’re blocking, you’re going to be out of luck.” – Michael Robinson on the Dallas Cowboys facing the Arizona Cardinals

“I think he is going to inject some excitement in the offense. Not only the offense but the entire team.” – Michael Robinson on Michael Vick starting at quarterback for the New York Jets

Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones & Head Coach Jason Garrett with NFL Network’s Melissa Stark

NFL Network’s Melissa Stark sat down with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett for an interview on NFL GameDay First and NFL GameDay Morning:

Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett

On what the past week has been like:
“It’s a typical week…[Tony Romo’s injury is] just part of the deal. He got banged up in the game and did a good job being able to come back into the game.”

On what it is like having the owner on the sideline giving him injury updates while the game is being played:
“I didn’t feel like it was that big of a deal. He came out and said I just was in there, this is what happened, the doctors looked at it and the X-rays are negative; hopefully [Tony Romo] can come out and move around here. I said great and he walked away. So it really wasn’t that big of a deal at all.”

On if the season flashed before his eyes when Tony Romo went down:
“No, not at all. You try not to take an emotional look at these kinds of things. You send the doctors out there and see how he’s doing. The other part of it is just make sure that Brandon Weeden is ready to go. He starts to warm up, he starts to take snaps and you really kind of deal with the task at hand which is seeing how Tony [Romo] is, getting Brandon ready to go and then make the decision from there.”

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones

On if he has no regrets about the decision to insert Tony Romo back into the game against the Washington Redskins:
“Well, keep in mind that we’ve seen Tony go out and play with what were [the equivalent of] season-ending injuries two times; one with the shoulder against San Francisco – bring us back in overtime to a win – and then against Washington his very last game last year.”

Brady vs. Manning – The Best Seat in the House

On NFL Network’s NFL GameDay First and NFL GameDay Morning, former backup quarterbacks for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning describe what makes each of them great.

On Tom Brady

“In my opinion, Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time.” – Brian Hoyer

“Tom was a guy that really wanted to learn but he did it in an entirely positive way so I was always more than willing to share information with him. As it turns out, I shared too much information with him because the damn guy took my job.” – Drew Bledsoe

“Tom is the most meticulous at his preparation of anyone I’ve ever been around, whether it’s the physical part on the field staying after practice or in the film room.” – Doug Flutie

On Peyton Manning

“Is he the biggest guy? Is he the strongest guy? Is he mobile? In those categories you’d probably say no. But is he the best quarterback that’s played the game? In my opinion I say yes.” – Mark Rypien

“I was really neat and orderly in my penmanship, and I take great notes. I’d have like two or three pages of notes and I’d look over at him and had 40 or 50 pages of hieroglyphics. All of these notes – how does he possibly process and handle all of that information? But he did.” – Brock Huard

“Peyton’s legacy will be he did it right, and he did it right all of the time.” – Kelly Holcomb

Quotes from NFL GameDay Morning

NFL Network NFL GameDay Morning
NFL GameDay Morning is the most comprehensive pregame show on Sunday morning, airing at 9:00 AM ET for four hours on NFL Network and taking viewers straight up to kickoff. Host Rich Eisen joins analysts Steve Mariucci, Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner, Warren Sapp and Michael Irvin to bring fans the latest news, injury reports, pregame analysis and game previews. Additionally, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport provides the latest inside information from around the league.

“Peyton Manning has the best supporting cast he’s ever had. We can look at offense or we can look at defense. I believe the team around him is the best team he’s ever played on.” – Kurt Warner on Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning

“In this game, in this weather, this kid is really going to pay some dividends. He’s changed the complexion of their offense.” – Marshall Faulk on Denver Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman

“I think what the offense does today is go back to what it should have been doing last week: that’s running the football more.” – Michael Irvin on the Dallas Cowboys offense without quarterback Tony Romo

“This is what I would consider a 40-carry game. Going into this game, if my quarterback was out and it was a game coming off of a loss like we had, I was getting ready to carry this football 40 times if need be. I believe that’s where DeMarco Murray needs to be.” – Marshall Faulk on Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray

“There are going to be about five throws that Brandon Weeden has to make in this game. He’s going to have to make those throws in order for the Dallas Cowboys to continue to run the football successfully. If he doesn’t make those throws, the running game will disappear.” – Marshall Faulk on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden

“RGIII is going to make a statement and he is going to let the Washington Redskins know I’m not just your starting quarterback – I’m your franchise quarterback.” – Marshall Faulk on Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III playing the Minnesota Vikings

“RGIII rebirths his whole career today by playing smart [and] doing what he needs to do, not too much.” – Michael Irvin on Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III

“When the general manager of an NFL team trades up from nine to four and gives up a future first and fourth round pick, there is a level of expectation that rookie will perform…He has exceeded all expectations.” – Mike Mayock on Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins

“The Saints can be very dangerous if they can consistently get a run game like they’ve gotten the last couple weeks.” – Michael Irvin on the 4-4 New Orleans Saints

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport

On the playbook available to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden:
“As far as the playbook available to Brandon Weeden, I’m told the actual playsheet will be the same. He wasn’t involved as much in the game planning as Tony Romo usually is because of course Romo has so much more experience. But Weeden is familiar with it, he has taken snaps every single Wednesday during the season; of course took all of the first-team reps this week while Tony Romo rehabbed and basically spent his time in meetings. Weeden will have the full complement of plays. The only difference is third down play calls will be a little bit simpler and he will not have all of the audibles available that Romo had simply because he doesn’t have as much time in this Cowboys’ offense.”

On Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks Tony Romo and Brandon Weeden:
“Not only will [Tony Romo] not play today, he may not even go to London with the team when they play the Jaguars just so they can make sure this pain does dissipate. But they have been preparing for Brandon Weeden all along; in fact, he took all of the reps this week in practice. When I talked to a Cowboys coach Friday night, he expressed confidence in Brandon Weeden, the kind of confidence you would not have seen when Weeden was a Browns quarterback mainly because the Cowboys have seen him gain the kind of understanding they want in their offense. That has happened because he has taken every first and second down rep every single Wednesday because Romo has missed it. He is perfect for this kind of offense because they know he can hand it off and take shots down the field.”

On Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo not playing against the Arizona Cardinals:
“This decision actually came from Tony Romo last night who decided just from a pain and functionality standpoint he could not do the things necessary to be an NFL quarterback. There is no structural damage. It’s not near the spine, it’s not near the nerve. These broken bones in his back – which by the way will never heal, they’ll just become asymptomatic – they will not allow him to do the things he needs to do to be a quarterback.”

On Houston Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney:
“The Texans coaches and staff members are becoming frustrated with number one overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. We know he missed several weeks earlier in the season with a knee injury; did not quite come back as soon as they had hoped. This week, he’s ill; he may not actually play today. What they want is for him to start showing some maturity and learn to play through some of these ailments. As a source just mentioned to me, this is really the first time Clowney has faced any sort of injury adversity; didn’t really happen in college and now they want him to try to play through it in the NFL. They are frustrated with their number one overall pick.”

On New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady:
“If he is on the Patriots’ roster in Week 17 this year, which everyone thinks he will be, Brady is guaranteed $24 million in salary but over the next three years. So he’s going to make $7 million guaranteed next year, then $8 million, then $9 million. A very cheap price, about half of what franchise quarterbacks in this league usually make. So even though it seems the Patriots drafted his replacement with Jimmy Garoppolo, Brady has made it extremely hard for the Patriots to move on without him, mainly because he is so cheap they can now use the extra money to build around him, almost ensuring that he’ll be on the roster a little longer than he might have been otherwise.”

On how long Michael Vick will start for the New York Jets:
“From the Jets sources I’m talking to, this is a week-to-week proposition. In fact, one said he believes Geno Smith could start as early as next week because they know Michael Vick is not the long-term solution for the New York Jets. He is in fact auditioning for other teams next year to try to prove that he is the starter. When they signed Michael Vick, they knew he wouldn’t be the Jets’ long-term option. They still want to see if Geno Smith is their franchise quarterback or if they’re going to have to draft one in the first or second round next year. This is being viewed as a break, a mental break, for Geno Smith to have Michael Vick start. He will do so today, maybe he earns another one next week and then the Jets will likely turn back to Geno Smith and try to see if he is their guy going forward.”
