Thursday Night Football Gives Us An Old School NFC Matchup

The New York Giants and the Chicago Bears go back to the early days of the National Football League. They don’t play as much as they used to due to expansion and division rivalries.

Brad Nessler, Mike Mayock and Alex Flanagan will be on-hand for the call of the Football Giants and Da Bears from Soldier Field in Chicago.

In addition, Rich Eisen and his merry band of analysts will also be in Chicago for the pre and postgame shows.

For anything I didn’t mention, the NFL Network has all particulars of the game below.

Bears WR Brandon Marshall Interview with Rich Eisen on ‘NFL Total Access Kickoff’ Pregame Show at 6:00 PM ET
NFL Network Analyst & Former Giants QB Kurt Warner Joins Coverage From Chicago

The Chicago Bears (3-2) will try to hold off the winless New York Giants (0-5) as the eighth season of NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football continues Thursday, October 10 at 8:00 PM ET from Soldier Field in Chicago. While no team in NFL history has ever made the playoffs after losing its first five games, the Giants’ are only two games out of first place in the NFC East, and over the past five seasons (2008-12) eight NFL teams have rallied from a deficit of two or more games to win their division – two of those coming from the NFC East (2012 Redskins & 2009 Cowboys).

Play-by-play announcer Brad Nessler and two-time Emmy-nominated analyst Mike Mayock call the game for their third season together, and Alex Flanagan provides reports from the sidelines.

NFL Network’s NFL Total Access Kickoff pregame show is live from the stadium starting at 6:00 PM ET. This week, NFL Network analyst and former Giants quarterback Kurt Warner joins host Rich Eisen, Hall of Famers Deion Sanders, Marshall Faulk and Michael Irvin, and former head coach Steve Mariucci. Reporters Alex Flanagan and Stacey Dales provide pregame news reports from the locker rooms and interviews with players and coaches, while NFL Media’s national insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Media’s Mike Silver are on-location with the latest news from around the NFL.

Additionally, Melissa Stark is live on-location outside of Solider Field with fans throughout the pregame show.

Featured on the pregame show this week:

  • Rich Eisen sits down with Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall
  • Melissa Stark provides a tour of Solider Field
  • The NFL Total Access Kickoff crew demonstrates how the Bears turn defense into offense
  • Is New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning putting too much pressure on himself?
  • An inside look at Broncos-Cowboys from Week 5 with exclusive sound from on the field and highlights from NFL Films cameras

Through four games of its 13-game schedule, NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football is averaging a 5.2 US HH rating and 8.2 million viewers – on pace to be the highest-rated and most-watched Thursday Night Football season ever.

International award-winning actress and recording artist Priyanka Chopra’s track “In My City” is the new theme for Thursday Night Football. This is Chopra’s second year being featured on NFL Network as last season she kicked off the Thursday Night Football pregame show.

Eisen, Sanders, Faulk, Irvin, Mariucci, Warner, Rapoport and Silver provide additional analysis on the Lexus Halftime Show and the postgame show. Following the game, hosts Dan Hellie and Amber Theoharis, and NFL Network analysts Darren Sharper and Willie McGinest will deliver a postgame edition of NFL Total Access live from NFL Network’s studios in Los Angeles.

As part of the NFL’s recently announced partnership with Twitter, in-game highlights will be accessible for Twitter users on PCs, tablets, and mobile devices from Thursday Night Football. The in-game highlights on Twitter are in addition to other game footage, news, analysis, fantasy football advice, and voting platforms from NFL Network and NFL.com that are part of a seven-day-a-week customized NFL video content programming schedule created specifically for the Twitter platform (twitter.com/NFL).

The NFL and NFL Players will support October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with their fifth-annual national screening initiative and fundraising campaign. In collaboration with the American Cancer Society, the initiative, called “A Crucial Catch: Annual Screening Saves Lives,” reminds women 40 and older about the importance of having an annual mammogram.

Throughout the month, NFL Breast Cancer Awareness games will feature footballs with pink ribbon decals, on-field pink ribbon stencils and many pink items, including cleats, wristbands, gloves, sideline caps, pins, helmet decals, eye shield decals, captains’ patches, sideline towels and quarterback towels. To mark its fifth anniversary, this year’s campaign will highlight inspiring stories of individuals impacted by the A Crucial Catch campaign. All stories will be available on www.nfl.com/pink.
