NBC Airs Dallas vs. Miami in the Annual NFL Hall of Fame Game

In a sign that football is truly here, NBC airs the annual NFL/Hall of Fame Game between the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins live from Fawcett Stadium in Canton, OH. Al Michaels who will be honored this week with the Pro Football Hall of Fame Pete Rozelle Radio & Television Award for his play-by-play of the NFL dating back his days on Monday Night Football beginning in 1986, will call the game along with Cris Collinsworth and Michele Tafoya.

The game starts at 8 p.m. ET.

Al Michaels Honored with Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Rozelle Award

STAMFORD, Conn. – July 30, 2013 – Sunday Night Football, television’s No. 1 primetime program, kicks off the NFL’s 2013 preseason schedule with the NFL/Hall of Fame Game this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET as Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys face second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill, his new free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace and the Miami Dolphins.

Calling Cowboys-Dolphins from Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio is seven-time Emmy Award-winner Al Michaels (play-by-play), in his 28thseason as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 14-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth, who has won the Emmy for Outstanding Event Analyst in each of his four seasons in the Sunday Night Football booth; and sideline reporter Michele Tafoya, who won the inaugural Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Reporter following her first season with SNF in 2011.

This Friday in Canton at the Enshrinees Gold Jacket Dinner, the Pro Football Hall of Fame will present Michaels with the Pete Rozelle Radio & Television Award for “long-time exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football.”  Michaels has served as the play-by-play voice of the NFL’s broadcast primetime package for more than a quarter century (NBC, 2006-present; ABC 1986-2005).

“This is tremendous honor for Al, an icon who for 27 years has been the voice of record for the NFL in primetime,” said NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus.

“I consider it my lifetime achievement award that I get to work with the most iconic broadcaster in sports history,” said Collinsworth, entering his fifth season as Michaels’ Sunday Night Football partner.

NBC’s second preseason game will air on Sunday, Aug. 25 also at 8 p.m. ET and features Colin Kaepernick and the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers hosting the Minnesota Vikings, with 2,000-yard rusher Adrian Peterson.

Highlights of the 2013 Sunday Night Football schedule:

  • 19 primetime games, including the NFL’s opening game of the season, NFL Kickoff 2013 and NBC’s annual Thanksgiving night game;
  • Every 2012 playoff team makes an appearance on Sunday Night Football; 16 of NBC’s 18 scheduled games involve at least one playoff team from last season; 10 of 18 include two playoff teams (Week 17 game TBD);
  • Three games each for the Ravens, Broncos, Patriots, Steelers, Packers, Giants, Cowboys;
  • The Ravens host the Steelers on NBC’s annual Thanksgiving night game. NBC will broadcast a Thanksgiving night game each season through 2022;
  • Peyton Manning goes home to Indianapolis to take on Andrew Luck and the Colts in Week 7. Manning vs. Tom Brady as the Patriots host the Broncos in Week 12;
  • Three matchups among bitter NFC East rivals: Giants-Cowboys (Week 1), Redskins-Cowboys (Week 6) and Giants-Redskins (Week 13);
  • Three playoff rematches, including a rematch of the AFC Championship Game (Patriots-Ravens) in Week 16, and a rematch of the AFC Divisional Playoffs (Broncos-Ravens) in NFL Kickoff 2013;
  • Emerging rivalries, including 49ers-Seahawks in Week 2 and Colts-Texans in Week 9;

NBC TO BROADCAST 19 NFL GAMES IN 2013: As part of the agreement NBC signed with the NFL in December 2011, NBC, for the second straight season, will broadcast 19 regular-season games, including 17 regular-season Sunday Night Football games, NFL Kickoff 2013, and the annual Thanksgiving night game. NBC’s original Sunday Night Football agreement, which began in 2006, included 17 regular-season games. It was increased to 18 games in 2010.

SNF NO. 1 PRIMETIME PROGRAM ON TELEVISION FOR 2 YEARS RUNNING: For the second straight primetime television season in 2012-13, Sunday Night Football ranked as the most-watched (persons 2+) show, and the No. 1 program across the key demographics of Adults 18-49, 18-34, 25-54, as well as Men 18-49, 18-34 and 25-54, based on Nielsen live + same day data.  Additionally, SNF was the No. 2 show among Women 18-34, and Women 18-49 based on Nielsen live + same day data.
