Thursday is Here

Long week and I had some internet issues this morning, but they appear to have been cleared up. As long as I have the internet connection back, I’ll do some links.

Let’s go to Darren Rovell of CNBC.com who has stuff on Michael Vick, who has been accused of one of the most heinous crimes, allowing dogfighting on his property and killing dogs in the most vicious ways. Darren says Nike will go on and unveil his shoe in August.

Renee Kimmel of Brandweek says the Breeders’ Cup is expanding its brand with the new Challenge series and putting the races on ESPN and ABC.

Fresh off his co-hosting gig at the ESPY’s, Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James will now host the season premiere of Saturday Night Live.

Earlier this month, the networks of NBC Universal aired the Live Earth concerts to help promote the perils of global warming. Now, NBC will use Sunday Night Football to help promote a new green initiative that the networks will launch in November.

Kevin Hench of Fox Sports.com talks about ESPN’s What’s Now.

Todd Porter of the Canton (OH) Repository has a story on the Big Ten Network’s hiring of game announcers. Bob Wolfey of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel talks about Green Bay Packers radio voice Wayne Larivee joining the Big Ten Network. Kyle Nagel of the Dayton Daily News has a story on Thom Brennaman becoming the lead announcer for BTN. From the business section of the Capital (WI) Times, BTN is negotiating with Charter Communications to gain carriage (scroll down).

From the New York Sun, Evan Weiner talks about how London, England is becoming a new frontier for American sports.

Bill Doyle of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette writes about the Open Championship which is the only golf tournament ABC will televise this year.

Bob Cole and Harry Neale will return for one more season on Hockey Night in Canada on CBC.

That’s it for now. I might have an update seeing that Thursday is usually not a great day for links.
