Matt Hayes of the Sporting News says the Big Ten Network is taking a big risk entering its inaugural season by going down to the wire with a lack of cable agreements. Chris Easterling of the Massillon (OH) Independent writes that Ohioans go into this football season not knowing if they’ll be able to see the Ohio State opener vs. Youngstown State.

Mark Cardon of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune says the Open Championship reunites Paul Azinger and Nick Faldo on ABC this weekend.

An editorial in the Austin (TX) American-Statesman says ESPN is no longer the Voice of a Generation. Was it ever?

Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has released a statement to Newsday that he doesn’t like his portrayal by Oliver Pratt in “The Bronx is Burning”.

Here’s an interesting story. The Western Athletic Conference has turned down a contract extension offer from ESPN and decided to see what it’ll receive in the open marketplace. Hmm.

Chris Zelkovich of the Toronto Star notes that there is a lack of amateur sports on Canadian TV especially of the Pan Am Games which have been on going since last week, but have not been on either in the USA or Canada except for ESPN Deportes.

Rob Brodie of the Edmonton Sun says CBC Sports couldn’t be happier with the FIFA U-20 World Cup which ends this weekend in Toronto.
