ESPN/ABC World Cup Announcing Assignments for World Cup Round of 16

The Round of 16 in the 2014 FIFA World Cup begins on Saturday. The all-South American matchups of Brazil vs. Chile and Colombia vs. Uruguay kickoff the Knockout Round of the World Cup on ABC.

Then ESPN takes over the matches for the rest of the Round of 16 through Tuesday including USA vs. Belgium in Salvador.

Ian Darke and Steve McManaman will call Brazil vs. Chile on ABC. Then Darke travels to Salavador where he’ll be joined by Taylor Twellman for USA vs. Belgium.

The very strong “B” team of Jon Champion and Stewart Robson will call Colombia vs. Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, then head to Porto Alegre for Germany vs. Algeria on Monday.

On ESPN Radio, JP Dellacamera and Tommy Smyth will be the lead team.

ESPN TV and Radio Commentators for 2014 FIFA World Cup, through Round of 16

ESPN’s month-long coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil moves to the knockout stages, beginning Saturday, June 28, with a pair of Round of 16 matches on ABC and WATCH ABC: Brazil vs. Chile (11:30 a.m. ET) and Colombia vs. Uruguay (3:30 p.m.). Lead play-by-play commentator Ian Darke and analyst Taylor Twellman will call the Belgium vs. USA match on Tuesday, July 1, at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN, ESPN3 and WatchESPN, while JP Dellacamera and Tommy Smyth will provide commentary on ESPN Radio’s broadcast. This is the United States’ second consecutive trip to the Round of 16, having lost in the same stage against Ghana in 2010. Weekend highlights:

  • Darke and Steve McManaman will call host nation Brazil vs. Chile, on Saturday, June 28, at 11:30 a.m. on ABC;
  • Jon Champion and Stewart Robson will describe the action from Colombia vs. Uruguay, on Saturday, at 3:30 p.m. on ABC;
  • Fernando Palomo and Alejandro Moreno, ESPN’s English-language commentating team for Mexican National Team matches, will call Netherlands vs. Mexico, on Sunday, June 30, at 11:30 a.m. on ESPN.
