CBS/Turner’s Coverage of The First Real Day of the NCAA Tournament Receives Highest Ratings in 20 Years

This press release ventures the question, “Why didn’t they think of this before?” The combined final ratings for CBS/TBS/TNT/truTV for the first Thursday of the NCAA Tournament is the highest since 1991 when the NCAA went to four broadcast windows for the entire day, meaning noon, 2:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Eastern time. Overall, the final ratings hit 5.0 with a 12.2 share. That’s up 19% from last year when all of the games were available on CBS. Think about that. The ratings through four networks combined for ratings that were 19% higher than the year before. That’s astonishing in this day and age.

Average viewership totaled 7.4 million which is 16% higher than last year on CBS. So do you think CBS and Turner are happy to get the NCAA Tournament over the ESPN?
