Friday Update

I’ll give you an update this afternoon as I’m listening to WFAN’s Mike and the Mad Dog online. To say they’re angry about the Joe Torre firing is an understatement. And Yankees President Randy Levine is taking a lot of shots from both Mike Francesca and Chris Russo. Good radio.

Let’s get to some links.

CNBC’s Darren Rovell says the Yankees knew what they were doing when they offered Joe Torre a pay cut yesterday.

Bob Raissman of the New York Daily News speculates that Torre’s next move might be the Fox booth next week when it does the World Series.

Paulsen over at the Sports Media Blog reviews his ratings predictions from the past two weeks and has his predictions for this weekend.

Andrew Krukowski of TV Week has a story on the record low ratings for the NLCS on TBS last week.

Tim Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports on the record low ratings for Monday Night Football involving the Falcons and Giants.

Sports Illustrated’s Paul Zimmerman answers e-mails and rails against the networks for not following the football action on the field.

John Ryan of the San Jose Mercury News writes about Dan Patrick moving to SI and Saturday Night Live’s lampooning of Notre Dame football on NBC.

Dusty Saunders in the Rocky Mountain News talks with NBC’s Al Michaels about the Broncos and the Rockies.

Scott D. Pierce of the Deseret (UT) Morning News takes the mtn. to task for its production of last week’s BYU-UNLV game.

David Pagnotta in MSNBC says the NHL’s revenues are up, but could be better if ESPN signs to air games next season.

Benning W. De La Mater of the Berkshire (MA) Eagle recaps the appearance of NBC/HBO’s Bob Costas and former MLB Commissioner Fay Vincent at Williams College last night.

Robert J. Hughes of the Wall Street Journal says ESPN.com, MLB.com, Yahoo.com and FoxSports.com all are competing for web traffic especially with the World Series set to begin next week.

Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer sits down with Fox’s Tim McCarver.

Jeffrey Flanagan in today’s Kansas City Star says Chiefs coach Herman Edwards will make an appearance on FSN’s Best Damn Sports Show Period, but only after it makes a one time name change to “Darn” because Edwards objects to the word, “Damn”.

The Wichita Eagle reports that FSN Midwest will pick up 10 Kansas State men’s college basketball games.

Ray Buck of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram writes that Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban continues to truck along in ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

CBS Sports has a few things for us. First, Bill Cowher will offer his analysis on how to beat the Patriots offense on the NFL Today this Sunday. Second, NFL analysts Dan Dierdorf and Randy Cross offer their thoughts for this weekend plus you have the announcing team assignments for the next three weeks. Third, CBS is crowing about increased ratings for the NFL this season and most of that comes in the wake of last Sunday’s Patriots-Cowboys game. And the network previews Saturday’s Florida-Kentucky matchup.

Ok, that will do ya for now. Coming up, Primetime Viewing Picks, College Football Viewing Picks, NFL Viewing Picks, Weekend Viewing Picks, NFL Picks for Week 7, plus anything else I can think of.
