Very impressive. Turner Sports once again churns out the quotage very quickly. Today, we have quotes and notes just 15 minutes after the MLB All-Star Game Roster announcements on TBS. Take a look at the quotes and then the rosters are on the bottom.

Notes from TBS’ exclusive announcement of the MLB All Star teams

Host: Matt Winer, Analysts: Cal Ripken. Jr., Dennis Eckerlsey and David Wells

Eckersley on the 2010 MLB season so far: “One week you’re on the bandwagon with one team, the next week you are not. This game has been up and down all season long, a lot of teams in the race this year.”

Ripken on Twins catcher Joe Mauer: “I consider him the game’s best player and someone I would build a franchise around if I was starting one.”

Ripken on Rays 3B Evan Longoria: “(He) is a young superstar…the thing that I like about him is that he has this tremendous poise, like he’s been around the game for 15 years.”

Eckersley on Yankees SS Derek Jeter: “Thirty-six years old, has not lost a step.”

Eckersley on Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols: “The greatest player in the history of the world…Nobody like Albert Pujols, maybe nobody ever. You can lock him in for 35 home runs, 125 RBI’s, play a great first place. Just an incredible, incredible player.”

Ripken on Phillies 2B Chase Utley being on the DL: “I’m personally disappointed because I love to watch Chase Utley play. Not only is he a great player offensively and defensively, but he is a smart, tough player. He’ll stick his knee down in front of the base to give way for an out. I love all the intangibles he brings. I’ll miss him at the All-Star Game.”

Eckersley on Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez: “He does everything, the most talented player in the game today with no doubt.”

Wells on Braves OF Jason Heyward potentially missing the game with injury: “Let’s just hope he does go. This guy is a stud. He’s doen everything; he’s got the arm, he’s got the hits. He’s got that Willie McCovey-type swing.”

Eckersley on the importance of Dodgers OF Andre Ethier: “They can not win without him.”

Ripken on Rockies P Ubaldo Jimenez: “It is difficult to pronounce his name for some of us, but he should just change his name to ‘Nasty”; a 100 mph fastball, a nasty split and an occasional breaking ball…He probably should start the All star Game.”

Eckersley on Phillies 1B Ryan Howard: “One of the most dangerous hitters, if not the most dangerous hitter in the game today. He can go bridge (HR) to any part of the ballpark…there is no one better as far as power numbers than Ryan Howard.”

Wells on Padres 1B Adrian Gonzalez: “The pride of San Diego. Adrian Gonzalez, probably the nicest guy you will ever meet, but don’t take that into consideration as he is deadly at the plate. He is one man wrecking crew in San Diego.”

National League All Star Game Manager Charlie Manuel (Phillies) joined the crew via satellite

Manuel on Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg: “He got quite a bit of consideration. I love watching that guy pitch. I haven’t seen the guy live yet, we haven’t faced him….He has got a great future. He is going be an All-Star for a long time. What does he have, 5 starts? I just felt there are other guys who have started 18 to 20 games. I just felt leave him alone and let him get used to the Major League level.”

  

Manuel of Phillies starting pitcher 47-year old Jamie Moyer: “Guys, I want to tell you something, from last year this guy is actually getting better. I don’t know where we’d be if we didn’t have (Roy) Halladay and (Jaime) Moyer.”

Eckersley on Red Sox P Jon Lester: “This guy is the Red Sox ace of the staff and he’s gotten better and better each year…this guy is the real deal.”

Eckersley on Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera: “Here’s a guy that could be the MVP of the American League right now and can’t even make the starting lineup. This guy year in and year out is a threat to win the triple crown.”

American League All Star Game Manager Joe Girardi (Yankees) joined the crew via satellite

Girardi on the toughest part of picking the AL All Stars: “I think the toughest part is you know you are going to leave somebody off that is extrememly deserving of going and they are going to be disappointed….It’s kind of like the NCAA (Men’s basketball) tournament pool, you can 64 teams, increase it 128 and there still are going to be two teams that felt they are deserving of going, and there are players who are deserving of going who are not, and that is tough.”
