“He may not be the only problem but I believe he’s the biggest problem with this team.” – Kurt Warner on Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler

“Jay Cutler is being paid like one of our elite players in our game…Jay Cutler is supposed to be an elite player. The Chicago Bears have made that commitment. It’s time for Jay Cutler to play like an elite player.” – Sterling Sharpe on Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler

Quotes from NFL GameDay First

NFL Network GameDay First

Every Sunday morning at 7:00 AM ET, NFL Network is first on the field with NFL GameDay First. Host Melissa Stark, co-host/analyst Sterling Sharpe, and analysts Shaun O’Hara and Michael Robinson provide the first analysis of the day’s games, while NFL Network reporters stationed across the league report from stadiums with the first on-location reports of the day.

“There’s nothing going on in that locker room. Those guys are very focused. I’ve talked to guys this week. They want to move forward. They want to get passed all this stuff from last week. I talked to coach [Pete] Carroll last night; he talked about how excited the guys were. Personally, I think this team is going through a little bit of a transition. Some of the voices like Red Bryant, Chris Clemons, guys that they’ve heard all the time in certain situations they’re hearing new voices now. Those new voices have to step up; Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Marshawn Lynch to a degree, Russell Wilson. That’s where they are. They’re having new leaders step up and they’re working through some issues right now, but they’ll be fine.” – Michael Robinson on the state of the Seattle Seahawks locker room

“They have to win. If you’re talking about what’s going on in the locker room, you’re losing football games. That’s why we’re talking about the off-the-field stuff. As players, we found this to be true after we won the Super Bowl. When we came back the next year, it’s a lot harder to win football games. When teams are gunning for you, you’re getting everyone’s A-game. Nobody’s looking past you.” – Shaun O’Hara on why the Seattle Seahawks are struggling

“The core group of guys in this locker room, they haven’t encountered much adversity. One thing Pete Carroll always preaches when you first come in that locker room [is] how you deal with adversity will be your measuring stick of success in this league. You have to be able to deal with adversity.”  – Michael Robinson on the new leadership in the Seattle Seahawks locker room

“Russell Wilson is the guy to lead this team out of the darkness.” – Michael Robinson on the leadership of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson

“Right now that locker room is upset. Right now they want to rise to the occasion. [Marshawn Lynch] is upset; he wants the ball and I think they’re going to use him a lot. Expect some surprises.” – Michael Robinson on why the Seattle Seahawks are ready to end their losing streak

“I know personally from talking to him that he wants to be known as a receiver. He wants to be able to go downfield. He wants to be able to make those splash plays down the field like a number one receiver can do. He puts Eric Decker back to where he naturally wants to be: a number two receiver [and] a complement to the number one receiver.” – Michael Robinson on Percy Harvin’s new start with the New York Jets

“If that had been Jay Cutler, and Jay Cutler comes in after they played poorly and made those kind of comments and said ‘We have to do better, this is unacceptable’, we would have been giving him all kind of praise for being the leader in that locker room…Brandon [Marshall] is that leader for that football team and obviously the things that he said were correct. They should be better than they are playing and everyone should feel that what they’re doing is unacceptable.” – Michael Irvin on why he supports how Brandon Marshall handled the Chicago Bears Week 7 loss to the Miami Dolphins

“Haloti Ngata has been the difference maker for this defense…For being so big, look how fast he is. Big guys should not move like that. It’s all the little things he does on the inside that he doesn’t get credit for.” – Shaun O’Hara on Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata

Quotes from NFL GameDay Morning

NFL Network NFL GameDay Morning

NFL GameDay Morning is the most comprehensive pregame show on Sunday morning, airing at 9:00 AM ET for four hours on NFL Network and taking viewers straight up to kickoff. Host Rich Eisen joins analysts Steve Mariucci, Kurt Warner, Warren Sapp and Michael Irvin to bring fans the latest news, injury reports, pregame analysis and game previews. Additionally, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport provides the latest inside information from around the league. This week, Willie McGinest joined NFL GameDay Morning in-studio.

“There’s not anything going on in the Seahawks’ locker room. This team is built to deal with adversity.” – Michael Robinson on the Seattle Seahawks

“Absolutely. Russell Wilson has taken the reins. He is the leader. He is the guy that you want.” – Michael Robinson on if Russell Wilson is the leader of the Seattle Seahawks

“Sources close to [Marshawn] Lynch say he harbors bitterness towards the Seahawks Commander in Chief, Pete Carroll, the residual effects of a training camp holdout and organizational proclamations his workload would be reduced.” – Michael Silver on Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch

“He may not be the only problem but I believe he’s the biggest problem with this team. When he plays well, this team wins. When he doesn’t play well, this team loses because they’re based on offense…The problem with Jay Cutler for me is the lack of consistency. He has only put together one game all year long where he’s been consistent first half to second.” – Kurt Warner on Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler

“The Patriots love to play man coverage, and if I’m Jay Cutler and I have all of those offensive weapons, it’s a perfect scenario for me to go out and have success…You get those big receivers one-on-one with the [defensive backs] of the Patriots, I think they have a chance. I really do believe they can go out and get this game.” – Kurt Warner on the Chicago Bears facing the New England Patriots

“This is absolutely a must-win…It’s time to show that you are what we thought you were a long time ago at the beginning of this season. They’ve fallen off. Since A.J. Green went down, where is this team?” – Michael Irvin on the importance of today’s game for the Cincinnati Bengals

“It’s been a blessing in disguise because Matt Stafford has realized there are other people in the world that can catch the ball besides Calvin Johnson…[Golden Tate] has been a number one receiver for the Detroit Lions. He has been the man. When Calvin comes back and [Stafford] realizes now I have two real good guys to throw the football to, there’s no telling where Detroit can go.” – Michael Irvin on the Detroit Lions playing without wide receiver Calvin Johnson

“[Joe] Flacco is earning his new contract. He’s playing his best football…He’s playing smart, he’s balanced, he’s playing like a leader like they expected him to play.” – Steve Mariucci

“This defense is off the charts. They’re so much better than they were…When it’s all said and done, they will win the Super Bowl because of this great defense.” – Steve Mariucci on the Denver Broncos defense

“Ronnie Hillman to me has made a huge difference for this football team. He’s given them a little spark; can catch the ball out of the backfield, can give them that burst and that big play in the running game.” – Kurt Warner on Denver Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport

On how the New York Jets plan to use Percy Harvin in his debut with the team:
“The short answer is everywhere. I talked to Jets receiver Eric Decker this week about Percy Harvin the newest addition, a player that clearly has the locker room buzzing. What Decker told me is you will see him on handoffs, reverses, crossing routes – anything to get Percy Harvin the ball in his hands. As Decker said, he can take a five-yard catch and take it 70. We know Percy Harvin is fast. We also know that he has impressed his new teammates with that speed; as Decker told me, we have some track guys on the team, we have some guys who think they are fast and they turned to me and they said, ‘Damn, he is fast.’ He makes everything look so easy, they really can’t believe it seeing it in person. Decker told me this is something we definitely need on offense to open things up for everyone.”

On the state of the Seattle Seahawks:
“Mike Robinson really hit it right on the head talking about the transition in the locker room. So many of the old voices from last year including Red Bryant are no longer there. What you are seeing now is the Seahawks transition to Russell Wilson as the sole leader of the locker room. There certainly are some players in that room who believe he is more part of management than part of the actual team, which is really not a change from a lot of the other quarterbacks in the NFL; guys like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning more closely associate with the coach and general manager than they do with players. One person I would not be surprised if he is no longer with the team after this year: Marshawn Lynch. Certainly appears to be a part of the old guard of the Seahawks locker room. He has a tense relationship with coach Pete Carroll that much we know; does not communicate with Carroll, does not communicate with general manager John Schneider, really just keeps to himself and keeps to his teammates. We knew he held out earlier this year trying to get more money. That’s why based on what I know now I would not be surprised if the Seahawks took a running back very early in the draft and essentially replace Beast Mode on their roster.”

On Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson:
“The name to focus on for the trade deadline: Vincent Jackson. He is from what I understand generating more phone calls than anyone. You mentioned the Seahawks, you mentioned the Eagles. The Patriots are also among the more than four teams calling for the star number one receiver. From what I understand, the Bucs would be willing to trade Vincent Jackson, who is making $10 million this year and set to make as much next year, for the right price. What would that be? A second round pick. If one of those teams is willing to offer a second round pick, I would think this trade gets done. Might actually take a third [round pick] too.”

On what happened in the Chicago Bears locker room following last week’s loss to the Miami Dolphins:
“According to two sources in the locker room, here is what happened postgame: Brandon Marshall went off on his team, unhappy of course with the losing and the performance. One player rolled his eyes at Brandon Marshall and said, ‘Here we go.’ Lamarr Houston, formerly of the Oakland Raiders, he stepped in, he had Marshall’s back yelling at this teammate saying, ‘If you can leave here and be OK with this, if you can be OK with the performance then what are we doing here?’ As Houston said, he lost a lot with the Oakland Raiders – he did not come to Chicago to lose. He is not OK with the way they played.”

On Johnny Manziel and the Oakland Raiders:
“I have two words for you: Johnny Oakland. It actually could have happened. According to three Raiders sources, Jon Gruden, who is very close with owner Mark Davis and several people in the Raiders franchise, spent the first round of the draft imploring the Raiders [to] draft Johnny Manziel. He likes Derek Carr, he thought it was a good pick in the second round but he wanted them to draft Manziel because he believed he had a better chance of being a franchise quarterback more than anyone else. And he said Manziel would be the one to fix the Raiders’ problems. Why would Jon Gruden care about the Raiders? He told one close friend if I come back to the NFL, the only job I’d come back for would be the Oakland Raiders.”

On San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith:
“Aldon Smith could be back Monday with the 49ers. According to the terms of his negotiated settlement with the NFL and the NFLPA, his nine-game suspension could be reduced to a seven-game suspension for good behavior. Aldon Smith has exhibited good behavior, I’m told, and while the NFL hasn’t made a firm decision – they haven’t told anyone what they’re going to do on Monday – he could be back to play the Rams, which is two weeks earlier than expected.”
