Yup. After Super Bowl XLIX in Arizona in February, the NFL will eschew the Roman numerals and use regular numbers starting with Super Bowl 50.
The local Super Bowl organizing committee had sought to have “50” showcased instead of “L” so the NFL agreed and thus instead of the league ordaining the 50th Super Bowl as “L,” it is now “50.
The national logo that will be used on all of the networks is above. Here’s the regional logo that showcases San Francisco’s skyline in “50” and Levi’s Stadium which at the base of the Lombardi Trophy.
It’s a little sad that we won’t continue with Roman numerals, but it is a relief that we won’t see “MMCL” down the line.
