NBCUnivision Receives Decent Overnight Rating for EPL Championship Sunday

Let’s continue our soccer theme today.

NBC Sports has announced that English Premier League Championship Sunday during which all 10 fixtures were aired simultaneously across the networks of NBCUniversal received a 1.56 overnight rating. Fox and ESPN went all balls-to-the-wall in 2011-12 and received a 0.87 over five Nielsen-rated networks when it began this type of coverage. Last year, games were aired on only two rated networks.

Here’s NBC’s announcement.

RECORD OVERNIGHT RATING FOR PREMIER LEAGUE “CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY” ON NETWORKS OF NBCUNIVERSAL

Unprecedented Simultaneous Presentation of All 10 Games Live on Different TV Networks Posts Combined 1.56 – Up 79% from Prior Mark

STAMFORD, Conn. — May 12, 2014 – NBCUniversal scored a ratings record for its unprecedented “Championship Sunday” programming featuring all 10 Premier League matches presented live simultaneously on 10 different NBCUniversal television networks on the season’s final day. In addition, Spanish-language networks Telemundo and mun2 each televised one match.

Yesterday’s matches – featuring Manchester City winning their second Premier League title in three seasons with a 2-0 victory over West Ham United on NBC, while Liverpool secured second place with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Newcastle on NBCSN – posted a combined 1.56 metered market rating (10am-Noon ET) on the 10 English-language networks, according to The Nielsen Company.

The 1.56 is up 79% from the final day of the 2011-12 Premier League season on ESPN2, FX, Fox Soccer, Speed, and Fuel (0.87 for 10am-Noon ET).  On the final Sunday of the 2012-13 season, only two Premier League games aired on rated networks (ESPN2 and FOX Soccer).

That is all.
