The 140th Kentucky Derby

California Chrome blew away a field of 19 horses at the famed Twin Spires of Churchill Downs on Saturday making it a heavy favorite to complete the Triple Crown. It would be the first horse since Seattle Slew in 1978 to finish horse racing’s toughest feat.

California Chrome took the lead in the final turn heading for home and beat a field that included Wicked Strong, Danza and others.

Larry Collmus had the call of the race on NBC Sports on Saturday.

The next leg in the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore, MD takes place on May 17 on NBC.
