On Sunday, there are a lot of things going on at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The US men’s hockey team doesn’t have much time to celebrate its win over Russia as it has to play against Slovenia. NBCSN has the game at 7:30 a.m. ET with pregame starting at 7:15.
Lindsey Jacobellis is back to attempt to win that gold medal that eluded her in Turin when she attempted a trick while way ahead of Tanja Frieden in the Snowboard Cross and fell. And it led to the iconic Ed Leigh call on BBC Sport “Frieden!!! FRIEDEN!!!!!”
Anyway, Jacobellis will be back and her attempts to win a gold will be aired on NBC.
Figure skating is back after a day off and it will be the short dance with Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White attempting to win the gold. It’ll be live on NBCSN at 10 a.m. with Terry Gannon, Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir on the call and on tape on NBC in primetime with Tom Hammand, Scott Hamilton and Sandra Bezic.
There’s also the men’s cross-country 4x10K relay, curling, the men’s Super G and long track speed skating all on the docket plus the bobsled competition gets underway.

Men’s Hockey – Finland vs. Canada (LIVE)NBC HIGHLIGHTS (Primetime):
- Figure Skating – Ice Dancing Short Dance: Michigan’s Meryl Davis and Charlie White, 2010 Olympic silver medalists, face their training mates and chief rivals, reigning Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada. The required dance pattern for the short dance is the Finnstep, a fast, bubbly dance that is often compared to champagne.
- Women’s Snowboarding – Snowboard Cross Gold Medal Final: After two Olympic disappointments and two recent knee surgeries, top American Lindsey Jacobellis returns for her third Games a strong contender for gold. Jacobellis was leading by a wide margin in Torino but fell while attempting a trick on the second-to-last jump and ended up with silver.
- Men’s Alpine Skiing – Super-G Gold Medal Final: In alpine skiing, a pair of decorated Americans, reigning super-G world champion Ted Ligety and 2010 Olympic silver medalist Bode Miller, will look to knock off defending champ Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway in his signature event.
- Women’s Speed Skating – 1500m Gold Medal Final: Brittany Bowe, a former college basketball standout from Florida, recently emerged as a contender in this event, but she’ll have tough competition from dominant Dutch skater Ireen Wuest.
- Two-Man Bobsled – Competition: Reigning four-man Olympic champ Steven Holcomb, who overcame a degenerative eye condition that nearly cost him his sight to win gold in Vancouver, attempts to pilot his way to the first U.S. Olympic title in the two-man since 1936. Driving a new, high-tech sled, the 33-year-old from Park City went on a tear to start this season, winning four consecutive races in this event.
NBC HIGHLIGHTS (Daytime):
- Men’s Cross-Country – 4x10km Relay Gold Medal Final: Sweden, the reigning champion, and Norway, the 2010 silver medalist, have an intense rivalry in this event. Norwegian star Petter Northug created a stir at the 2011 World Championships when he showboated down the final stretch of the team relay, crossed the finish line sideways and stopped in front of his rival from Sweden. At 2013 Worlds, Northug overtook Sweden again to win, and shrugged his shoulders mockingly at the finish line.
NBC HIGHLIGHTS (Late Night):
- Men’s Biathlon – 15km Mass Start Gold Medal Final: With the first U.S. Olympic biathlon medal on the line, New York’s Tim Burke will look to be at the start of this event, which narrows down the field to 30 of the top biathletes. Meanwhile, a medal for 12-time Olympic medalist Ole Einar Bjoerndalen of Norway would give him the record for the most medals in Winter Olympic history.
NBCSN HIGHLIGHTS:
- Men’s Curling – USA vs. Canada: Two-time Olympian John Shuster leads the U.S. against the Canadians, who have won the past two Olympic gold medals and recently finished second at the 2013 World Championships.

At 2013 Worlds, Northug overtook Sweden again to win, and shrugged his shoulders mockingly at the finish line.
- Men’s Hockey – Slovenia vs. USA (LIVE): After their memorable shootout victory over Russia, the Americans wrap up group play LIVE against Olympic newcomers Slovenia. Team USA is looking for its first medal at a non-North American Olympics since 1972, when it won silver in Sapporo, Japan.
- Figure Skating – Ice Dancing Short Dance (LIVE): Michigan’s Meryl Davis and Charlie White, 2010 Olympic silver medalists, face their training mates and chief rivals, reigning Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada. MSNBC HIGHLIGHTS:
- Women’s Curling – USA vs. Canada (LIVE): Sixteen years after her Olympic debut in Nagano, Erika Brown returns to the Games as the skip of the U.S. women’s curling team. The U.S. women take on Canada, who currently sit atop the round robin standings.
