NBC Posts Big Ratings for Tuesday’s Olympic Primetime

NBC has to be excited about its Tuesday ratings. Not only did they surpass Turin’s numbers to which NBC has been mostly comparing the Sochi Games, but they also outdistanced the numbers from Vancouver for the same opening Tuesday of the Olympics by a wide margin.

In addition, NBCSN set a daytime viewing record between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. ET averaging 1.1 million people for that period.

For Tuesday’s Olympic primetime, NBC saw a 13.7 rating and a 22 share which is up 12% from Vancouver’s 12.2/19 four years ago and 21% over Turin’s 11.3/18 eight years ago.

Viewership for Tuesday averaged 23.7 million and that is up 17% from Vancouver and a big 29% from Turin.

The increased viewership for primetime is trickling down to late night as NBC averaged 5.8 million people up a whopping 45% from 2010.

In the local markets, Minneapolis is back on top with a 21.8/36. Eastern markets are back in the Top 10 and mostly taking Monday off. Fort Myers, FL, Pittsburgh and Providence are sprinkled throughout the rankings.

This is what NBC is saying.
