NBCUniversal’s Programming for Day 2 of the XXII Olympic Winter Games

On Sunday, NBCUniversal will have coverage of several glamor events on Sunday including the men’s downhill, team figure skating, luge as well as hockey. MSNBC, NBC and NBCSN will all air events on Sunday.

There will also be speed skating as well as cross-country.

And in the Team Figure Skating, US ladies champion Gracie Gold is expected to make her debut in the free skate portion and ice dance world champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White will also skate.

Bode Miller will ski for gold in the downhill which will be held for primetime, but will be live online.

NBC begins its coverage at 2 p.m. ET. NBCSN hits the air at 3 a.m. ET while MSNBC starts at 8 a.m.

Stamford, Conn, – February 8, 2014 – NBC’s primetime coverage of the XXII Olympic Winter Games on Sunday, February 9, is highlighted by the gold medal final in the inaugural team figure skating event. Reigning U.S. champion Gracie Gold is expected to make her Olympic debut in the ladies’ free skate for Team USA, with reigning world ice dance champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White expected in the free dance. Primetime coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET on NBC. Also in primetime, five-time Olympic medalist Bode Miller competes for the gold medal in the men’s downhill, and South Lake Tahoe’s Jamie Anderson competes in the women’s snowboard slopestyle final, where she is favored to win the event’s first-ever gold medal. Rounding out primetime coverage is the individual K-95 event in men’s ski jumping.

Live coverage on Sunday, February 9, begins at 3 a.m. ET on NBCSN, and is highlighted by the gold medal finals for team figure skating, women’s speed skating in the 3000m event, ski jumping in the individual K-95 event, and men’s luge, with legend Armin Zoeggeler of Italy attempting to become the first Olympian – summer or winter – to win six consecutive medals in the same individual event. Live coverage of Russia vs. Germany in women’s hockey begins at 8 a.m. ET Sunday on MSNBC.

The competition favors the most well-rounded skating countries, meaning the fight for the podium will be fierce among the United States, Canada, and host country Russia on the event’s final night.

Men’s Alpine Skiing – Downhill Gold Medal Final: Skiing’s signature race covers two miles in two minutes and has been won by two Americans. Bode Miller, the most decorated U.S. Olympic skier of all time, would like to become the third after winning bronze in Vancouver. The 36-year-old Miller will have to contend with a deep field of rivals, led by Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal, the 2010 Olympic silver medalist and reigning world champion.

Women’s Snowboarding – Slopestyle Gold Medal Final: South Lake Tahoe’s Jamie Anderson is favored to win the first gold medal as women’s slopestyle makes its Olympic debut. The 23-year-old avid environmentalist has been the dominant figure in the event in recent years.

Men’s Ski Jumping – Individual K-95 Gold Medal Final: At just 24, Austrian star Gregor Schlierenzauer is already being called one of ski jumping’s all-time greats, but is still in search of his first individual Olympic gold medal. Swiss rival Simon Ammann, who has broadened his aerial skillset by earning his pilot’s license since sweeping the individual events for a second time in Vancouver, could also be in the hunt.

Figure Skating Team Event – Men’s Free Skate: The final day of the first-ever figure skating team event gets underway with the men’s free skate. The competition favors the most well-rounded skating countries, meaning the fight for the podium will be fierce among Canada, the United States, and host country Russia on the event’s final night.

Women’s Biathlon – 7.5km Sprint Gold Medal Final: Russia lost a medal contender when biathlete Anastasia Kuzmina changed her citizenship to compete for Slovakia at the Vancouver Games, where she won gold in the sprint. She returns to her home country to try to defend her Olympic title.

Women’s Speed Skating – 3000m Gold Medal Final: Germany’s Claudia Pechstein looks to win her fourth Olympic medal in this event, 20 years after her first. Another medal would give the 41-year old 10 for her career, tying the all-time Olympic Winter Games women’s record.
