Tim Brando Leaves CBS

Tim Brando, the long-time host of College Football Today and the current host of his own radio show, has left CBS “by mutual decision.” Brando was with CBS dating back to 1995 when he joined the network to call college basketball and the NCAA Tournament. He then became host of College Football Today in 1999 and was synonymous with the SEC on CBS.

He has been hosting his own radio show which was syndicated originally by Sporting News Radio, then Yahoo! Sports Radio. It’s currently airing on SiriusXM.

Starting in 2011, his show had been simulcast on CBS Sports Network, but was taken off the air in December 2013 to make way for WFAN’s Boomer & Carton. Brando had made it clear that he was unhappy with the decision and today, he made an announcement on the show’s Facebook page.

“After 18 years at CBS and 16 years as the Host of College Football Today, I am leaving CBS Sports. I will no longer be the Host of College Football Today or provide play by play services for their golf, football or basketball coverage. This news comes on the heels of my announcement that the Tim Brando Show will not be returning to CBS Sports Network. It was truly a privilege to cover The SEC on CBS, The Road to the Final Four, and more recently The Masters for Masters.com and The PGA and Champions Tour. It was an honor working there. I am looking forward to new opportunies (sic) and making many exciting new memories covering sports. I greatly appreciate all the love and support from my loyal fans! Please stay tuned to this page, as we will post news as it becomes available! Don’t forget- you can ALWAYS listen to the show from 8-11am CT on SiriusXM College Sports Nation, channel 91. Thanks for your continued support- Timmy B.”

Before joining CBS, Brando was a college football studio host on ESPN and called college basketball games mainly with Dick Vitale. One wonders if Brando will somehow make a return to ESPN to be part of the SEC Network.

This also leaves a vacancy on the NCAA Tournament. If CBS has a say, Andrew Catalon would be a favorite to take his place. If Turner has its say, it may put (gasp) Dick Stockton in that slot. Stockton is currently calling Big East basketball on Fox Sports 1 and last called NCAA Tournament games in 1994.

Adam Zucker of CBS Sports Network would likely replace Brando on College Football Today as he has filled in for Tim when he called games.

We’ll see how this all shakes out in the coming months.

UPDATE, 12:30 p.m.: CBS Sports had the following statement: “We’ve mutually agreed to allow Tim to pursue other opportunities.”
