Ok, getting to quotage late. Attended a wake earlier today and had to take care of some housekeeping behind-the-scenes here at Fang’s Bites.

Now that it’s all done, I’ll provide the NFL Sunday pregame quotage from today. As usual, we begin with NFL Network’s Dynamic Duo of pregame shows, NFL GameDay First and NFL GameDay Morning.

NFL Network GameDay FirstQuotes from NFL GameDay First

Every Sunday morning at 7:00 AM ET, NFL Network is first on the field with NFL GameDay First. Host Melissa Stark, co-host/analyst Sterling Sharpe, and analyst Shaun O’Hara provide the first analysis of the day’s games, while NFL Network reporters stationed across the league report from stadiums with the first on-location reports of the day.

“He is the franchise quarterback and when you get a guy, it’s like when you find the right driver in golf: you don’t trade that driver.” – Sterling Sharpe on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger

“Offense wins games, defense wins championships. This is just another game. Nobody is going to hand them anything after this win or loss.” – Sterling Sharpe on the Kansas City Chiefs – Denver Broncos game

“Joe [Flacco] has been as advertised. Joe has been the same guy that led [the] Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl last season. But when you look at the pieces around him, he is not getting the same production from those pieces.” – Sterling Sharpe on why the Baltimore Ravens have struggled this season

“It’s not him, it’s them. When you look at the supporting cast around him, it’s just not the same group of guys. The only consistent entity this team has is Frank Gore running the football.” – Sterling Sharpe on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s recent performance

“When he starts to run, there is no explosion, no escape and no pressure on the defense. Because Robert Griffin does not move like he did last season, it’s going be hard to orchestrate this offense like he did last season.” – Sterling Sharpe on Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III

“[Jason Campbell] can spin it. He is really giving the Cleveland Browns the vertical passing attack that Norv Turner and Rob Chudzinski love. He’s injected a little life into this offense.” – Shaun O’Hara on Cleveland Browns quarterback Jason Campbell

‘Sunday Sitdown’ – Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid with NFL Network Analyst Steve Mariucci

NFL Network analyst Steve Mariucci sat down with Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on NFL GameDay Morning to discuss the team’s 9-0 start to the season, the upcoming game against the 8-1 Denver Broncos and his time in Philadelphia:

On what point last year he realized that 2012 would be his last season in Philadelphia:
“I guess when you’re in the grind of it, you don’t think that way; you’re always trying to fix whatever problem there is. That’s what we do as coaches, so I took it up to the last game. That’s how I went about the business.”

On Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith:
“You want to give him that opportunity for a fresh start, but at the same time you want to make sure that you’re bringing in a good football player to lead your football team. He was somebody that I thought could fit into this offense; smart, tough, and this gets so misconstrued in this business but you want him to be able to manage the offense…What quarterback isn’t a game manager that is successful? The bottom line is that he’s a good football player.”

On how the Chiefs defense stands up against the Denver Broncos offense:
“You want to have that kind of a challenge every week. You want to play the best…We understand [that we play the Broncos twice in three weeks] and our guys, they’ll prepare like crazy and get ready for them.”

On if he’s a better coach this year than he was in 2012:
“I guess by record, yes. I love those kids that I coached in Philadelphia and I felt like I had energy there, I feel like I have energy now. I’m fired up that I have a great coaching staff and these players here, I can’t say enough about the players here. Very lucky to have this opportunity and love every minute of it.”

NFL Network NFL GameDay MorningQuotes from NFL GameDay Morning

NFL GameDay Morning is the most comprehensive pregame show on Sunday morning, airing at 9:00 AM ET for four hours on NFL Network and taking viewers straight up to kickoff. Host Rich Eisen joins analysts Steve Mariucci, Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner, Warren Sapp and Michael Irvin to bring fans the latest news, injury reports, pregame analysis and game previews. Additionally, NFL Media Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Silver provide the latest inside information from around the league.

“There are a lot of guys that can just deliver the football down the field, there are a lot of facilitators in our league. But to consider him a franchise quarterback and say, ‘OK, the Philadelphia Eagles don’t need to go out and get another quarterback,’ I want to be wowed. I haven’t seen those ‘wow’ throws.” – Marshall Faulk on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles

“We’ve watched the Jets as they play pretty good defense; they can stop people, but Ed Reed brings something different to this team. Ed Reed gives you the chance not just to stop people but to take that ball away from people and take it the other way.” – Michael Irvin on the impact of safety Ed Reed joining the New York Jets

“[Calvin Johnson] is their motor, their engine – he’s everything for them. As long as he’s on the football field and Matthew Stafford is throwing it to them, they have a shot.” – Warren Sapp on Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson

“No one in this National Football League is more dangerous and makes a bigger impact than Calvin Johnson.” – Michael Irvin on Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson

“It’s all about that Bears defense if they’re going to make the playoffs.” – Steve Mariucci on the Chicago Bears

“The 49ers have to mix things up because they’re becoming too predictable on offense.” – Warren Sapp on the San Francisco 49ers

NFL Media Insiders Ian Rapoport & Mike Silver

On what is the source of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s frustration:
Ian Rapoport:
“Based on the people I’m talking to, it’s about losing and it’s about money. As far as losing, they’ve certainly done it a lot and that usually builds frustration. It is also about Art Rooney hiring an ill-fitting offensive coordinator like Todd Haley and then bringing him back for a second year after Haley promised to change. And then the money issue, and this is really one of the more important things. Roethlisberger is set to make $12 million next year, $11 million the following year while some of the star quarterbacks in the league make over $20 [million]. The Steelers are in a tough salary cap situation, [there are] some doubts about whether they would be able to extend him and Ben wants a new contract.”

On Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and offensive coordinator Todd Haley:
Rapoport:
“Part of the problem is, my understanding is Roethlisberger bought in much better this year and Haley did too, working together certainly better than they did last year, and the results are not there.”

On Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin:
Mike Silver:
“Owner Mark Davis loves Terrelle Pryor, the last draft pick of his late father Al. Others in the organization aren’t so convinced that Pryor is the long-term answer. Enter Matt McGloin, who impressed them in training camp as an undrafted rookie free agent. He was described to me by one Raiders source as a poor man’s Jeff Garcia. Chances are they will draft somebody next year; however, it’s all about McGloin in a tough test.”

Rapoport: “I reached out to a Raiders source last night to ask does he actually have the chance to win Terrelle Pryor’s job, and what I was told was today is going to be a good barometer for him. They really love McGloin; I know Greg Olson, their offensive coordinator, does. Talking to Raiders people, he’s tough, he’s smart and when I asked Bill O’Brien – his college coach – last night what to expect, he said competitiveness and a guy who gets us in the right plays.”

On Chicago Bears quarterback Josh McCown:
Rapoport:
“I asked a Bears source does he have a chance to win Jay Cutler’s job, and what I was told was, ‘No, Jay is our quarterback.”

Feature on Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict

NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala sat down with Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict, his mother Lisa Williams, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis and NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock to profile the second-year linebacker:

“I was ashamed of myself, embarrassed. I just feel like I had a nervous breakdown and if I could have tapped out, I would have tapped out.” – Vontaze Burfict on his performance at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine

“I kept seeing people get drafted I know I’m better than. It kind of gave me energy to prove everybody wrong.” – Burfict on the 2012 NFL Draft in which he went undrafted

“I see the big picture and I know why we have to give a guy like this an opportunity. I had to fight to get him a little bit of a signing bonus; I think we paid him $500 to sign the contract…The guy that we signed as a college free agent is a different guy than who was working out at in Indianapolis.” – Marvin Lewis on why he took a chance on Burfict

“Without Marvin Lewis’ direct involvement, I don’t think we’d ever know who Vontaze Burfict was.” – Mike Mayock
